Driving Tests should be
by Ramesh Yagnik on May 05, 2012 01:22 PM

Driving Tests should be made more stringent.

Showing Courtesy to others should be one of major test for getting a Driving license.
(Recently one Industrialist's son banged his car into other car 2-3 times, for not moving ahead in a RED SIGNAL, to make space for industrialists car to go ahead of him in a halted traffic.)
People driving their cars on wrong side & making a traffic jam worse should be punished with a cancelled license. Similarly Drivers of Heavy vehicles driving in small vehicles lanes should be punished this way, since it is a root cause of compelling small vehicles to do 'ZIGZAG' on roads.

The situation is worsening due to our country's population explosion. The corwded pace and stiff competition drives everyone to the edge.

Many people die when VIP s are driving..
by jaggu on May 04, 2012 11:22 AM

When such incidents happen the VIP's Driver is scarcely punished , due to halo of closeness to VIP. However the main culprit which is the VIP goes scot free.

It is time to impose capital punishment on elected representatives who enjoy enormous perks but miniscule punishments.

This problem cannot be solved!
by Tom Dick on May 02, 2012 09:08 AM  | Hide replies

Every one who venture out into the road in India is actually putting his/her life on the line. This can only be solved by :
1) complete discipline by all road users. That includes drivers, pedestrians, hawkers etc.
2) Strict action against all who violate road rules.
3) Any one who violate speeding rules should be put behind bars for a minimum 24 hours to teach them that a couple of minutes they save by over speeding will cost them a minimum 24 hours.
4) Population control ..politicians and religious heads should be thinking about this seriously.
5) Better infrastructures..good roads, parking bays, lane discipline, signals and whatever else.
6) Quick medical assistance for victims

1) What is overspeeding?
2) What is a decent speed limit - 40 KMPH? 80 KMPH?
3) Which civilized country on earth has a speed limit of 40 KMPH (25 MPH) on arterial roads? Most of the arterial roads in India, have a speed limit of 40 KMPH?
4) Which civilized country on earth has a speed limit of 80 KMPH (50 MPH) on EXPRESS HIGHWAYS? India's so called pride, the Mumbai - Pune Expressway has a speed limit of 80 KMPH!!!

5) Overspeeders should be put away for 24 hours. GREAT. What should be the quantum of punishment for rickshaw drivers, large truck drivers, frequently the municipality dump truck / garbage trucks, very low power two wheeler drivers (Scooty especially) and large Bus drivers, who insist on driving on the extreme Right Hand Side of the Road, at speeds at least 20% below even the pathetic Indian speed limits and absolutely refuse to budge to the left, regardless of how long a motorist who wants to drive at least at the speed limit honks on his / her horn?
6) Who is responsible for the injury & deaths of law abiding slow riders on the left hand side of the road, run down by motorists overtaking the above criminals (described in #5) from the left hand side.
7) For how many days should those motorcyclists & rickshawallahs be jailed, who cross a car standing behind the stop line at a red traffic signal and stop their vehicle halfway across the Zebra Crossing and THEN stall traffic after the light turns green 'cause the junk they ride can't accelerate??

A FEW REASONS
by madanmohan siddhanthi on May 02, 2012 08:27 AM

First let it be known not only delivery boys , taxi drivers - every one is subject to lot of risk when he is on the road . First the population has grown so much this has to be expected .No political party is willing to bring in laws to curb this menace . For some it is religion for some it is extra hands to help ,for some it is cheapest form of entertainment (albeit for short time) .Next the discipline is toally gone in public - if you are connected to a politician or political party as far discipline is concerned - it is not required .Next the infra structure is pathetic to the traffic. Finally the corrupt traffic police who will let you off if you are connected or take bribe and let you off . This sad but it is going to be worse . Political will power is only to survive and be in power nothing else. Of course when you are in power you can loot be it ruling party or opposition.

by nrmgrm on May 01, 2012 08:40 PM  | Hide replies

Pizza Huts have target time for delivery. If the Pizza is not delivered in time ,the customer is most likely to DIE out of hunger, so delivery boys risk their lives to save the lives of their customers.

You have not mentioned the worst category -the auto rickshaw these guys will put in spot or get you involved in accident and then go away . They are the worst .One of the reasons is sheer number if he is at fault within a minute hundred goons of the category collect to flleze you .Next it is well know factor a large number of auto in places like AP are owned by police personnel - so they are protected . I am extremely happy to drive when these fellows go on strike - although I know it creates problems for the public.

TAXI drivers are also risk for people
by pk shah on May 01, 2012 05:16 PM  | Hide replies

Few days back I saw a Pvt. taxi driver driving around speed of 120 km/hr withing the city limits of ahmedabad. This incident took place around 12.30 midnight. He almost hit a man going on bike with his wife. When that person told him he started hitting him with a stick.
When myfriend and I went there he just ran away. I could not able to not down the number as back side of the car there was no number plate. Now this type of Taxi driver is risk for others in City.

That doesn't sound like a taxi, no number at the rear of the car, driving at 120 KMPH, beating people with weapons (stick), sounds like a regular criminal or maybe terrorist.

You may want to report the matter to the police with at least a description of the car & driver if not the number, as he appears to be a regular goonda.

You are right. I have also heard these things happen in companies like TCS, Infosys and Wipro. Is your girlfriend in one of those?
