Did you notice the compartment. That is a very old one.

Problem is of lack of maintenance and usage of coaches for unlimited period. There is expiry date for everything.

Are passengers of these trains advised not to use toilet if the train is standing in the station, or do they have to use tracks?

For your information, Indian railways is practically the only one still opting to dump human waste from its carriages onto the tracks!

Every other large railway system in the world has switched over to the 'trap, collect and dispose at designated places (large pits connected to septic tanks)' system long since!!

Mali and Senegal are very very poor countries; and perhaps they have not yet done this. But the railways in those two countries account for only very minor shares of their passenger traffic. Their railways are used much more for freight movement.

And it can be safely said that even these two countries might switch over to the trap and dispose system should their passenger traffic increase and 'potty' on the tracks becomes at least a fraction as nauseatingly visible as it is in India!

That shows the useless capability of RCF.

What so great about it?the pictures shown are of coaches exported to Senegal and Mali, which themselves are downtrodden and 3rd grade and 3rd world countries. Also the exteriors are same as we are habituated of in India. The news would have made some sense if the exports were to America's,Europe, china,Japan, etc.but that is not a distant possibility, but Impossibility, after looking at these old, style less,non-spanky designs. REDIFF - if you don,t have any news, then atleast don't highlight useless news?

Boss, Americas and Europes do not have any money left. Don't you read the news? The money is now in the 3rd world.

Though they are 3rd grade countries, the interior of the coaches manufactured form them are much better than Indian Rail coaches. I envy those travelers.

Rediff's definition of beautiful:

Indian bridges, Sunny Leone, India rail coaches, Senegal & Mali trains, Raja Sen's reviews, Narendra Modi's measures, Mumbai Airport Terminal, Ooty highway, Gurgaon malls, South indian movie reviews

A heavy wooden steel based table and 4 wooden chairs are the worst design ever. Might be work in Mali and Senegal, but not beyond!
Try Somalia and Congo too!

Unfortunately we indians do not know to appreciate good facilities, Indians can produce the best anywhere in the world but how many of us react when we see fellow indians indulging in vandalism in trains and other means of public transport. The cops can be everywhere, so it is our resposibility to ensure that the people who use public ameneties do so responsibily. Indian railways to mahaan hi hai, but sadly, can we say the same about all Indians.

You get what your deserve. The reason for functionality more then aesthetics is because Indians do not appreciate public property when they are in India. betel nut stains every where, basic disregard for public property is rampant in India. Even if you get the best western trains to India they will be messed up in a few months. so the railways gives what Indians deserve, no point in complaining. With regards to these trains. Tourists pay money for this kind of rustic experience in Africa. Also the avg African loves colorful and rustic stuff. It is only we Indian's who think every thing western is beautiful. If you want to emulate the west then on time service and basic regard for public property is what i would emulate.
