FDI in odisha
by dineshbarik on Aug 29, 2012 04:26 PM  | Hide replies

Very good opportunity in Odisha for foreign investment. There is no labor unrest and it is Power house of raw materials like coal, minerals, Iron and other infrastructure facilities. Besides all, the state government is very much cooperative in welcoming the foreign investors. That is the reason it is No 1 .

Fr quite some time Odisha has been attarcting FDIs as among d top states of India, but whts important is how much really fructifies and gets grounded, that is a big question mark as many of the projects donot see the lioght of the day due to local problems of displacement, naxalism, politics etc

But the biggest bottleneck in Odisha becoming no 1 State in India is the central Govt at Centre. All types of problem and step motherly treatment till date has kept us away from desired growth. Congress party in Odisha is always posing problems in getting central grants and creating all types of disturbance in all infrastructural developments like NH , Railways and International airports. . Though PM wants POSCO to be expedited in Odisha still state Cong leaders are opposing the same on ground.Creating hostile situations in almost all projects being carried out in Odisha.

14 years of Naveen what has given to Odisha...A road from 6 no hospital to KiIT....through Jaydev bihar...the second Flyover in bbsr at Kalpana...or the street roads near the bureaucrat's homes.

Odisha owing to its large mineral deposit has always been the investment destination. Odisha has under achieved Naveen for the last 14 years. Just go 20km from the state capital...u will see the pathetic condition of state roads.

And law and order..don't talk about that. Every day there is killing in the constituency of Naveen. Just 2 days back criminals threw bombs at the police station in Khurda.

Odisha is suffering under Naveen. These figures are investment proposals, not real investments. We know what is happening to Posco.Damodar babau is the sitting MLA from the place no. A state can not even persuade a village to start the project for the last many years.

Do you want other states to follow these from Odisha?

Its true Odisha Government whether its Nabin Pattaniak or any other government only has its focuss on BBSR & Cuttack & other coastal areas, There is nothing in store for the people who live in those places, who have parted their land, who have sacrificed their sustainable living for FDI to happen in the state.
The money generated through FDI since independence has always been infused to state capital BBSR & its periphery while we guys who are not the part BBSR & its periphery, where maxm wealth of ODISHA resides do not have access to Healtcare facilities, do not have access to education, do not have access for oppourtunity. All these things you will get in ODISHA in either BBSR & CTC.
when u visit BBSR ODISHA is shining come outside BBSR see the facts.
There is loot going on in ANGUL, JHARSUGUDA, KORAPUT, SAMBALPUR & many other places where people cant even dream of having emergency healthcare facility in case of Accidents/Trauma. if u have money u can go to BBSR for treatment but provided u survive.

That is self explanatory with HDI figures, i think.
You have to pay atleast Rs.500 to a keralite as daily wage. That's why people from all north indian states work here

we pay these amounts and there is no point in arguing. Software engineers start their career taking only 5000 per month here. Mere knowledge does not pay you here.

True..there may be white collar workers working outside Kerala for 200-300 range but for industry to come, we need manual and skilled workers whose wages are pretty high.Ordinary manual labour costs about 500/- or more and skilled one like plumber, electrician, carpenter etc costs 600 plus. Not trying to defend ourselves but that is reality. With high literacy rate, people don't want to do menial jobs. They would rather work on white collar jobs for 200-300 !

Khemaji bheel,

Both of you are right. White collar workers are getting less in other states. Blue collar workers are getting more in Kerala. Because of this distortion, lots of migrants from other states in north and east india are coming to work in Kerala attracted by the 500 rupee per day wage. But hopefully, this distortion will even out with more supply from outside. Its a relief to businessmen in Kerala and as a result local investment has started picking up in the last 2-3 years.
