Ambain's Mansion
by Ravi on May 25, 2011 11:52 AM  | Hide replies

Indian billionaires like Mukes Ambani's house showcases the stark reality of Indian society- the growth is not inclusive. Over 50% of our population remains untouched by the fancy growth story of India . Fact is poor are getting poorer. Just move out 50 to 100 Kms from big cities and we find an entirely different India- undernourished- struggling to get the basic neccessities like clean drinking water, electricity, health care, education , roads, houses and what not. Go further deep and the situation becomes worse. Here is a country where farmers routinely committ sucide, there are hunger deaths, high rate of inflation etc. Naxal movement , which has become a great menace today is infact a result of this inequality and exploitation of poor people. Rich are getting richer and the gap betrween poor and rich is getting wider. This must stop if we want to see a prosperous India. India's super rich should learn something from Bill Gates, Warren Buffet who have given up vast sums from their enormous weath to charitable causes in India and other such countries. Antilla may be a great billion dollar home for Mukesh but is certainly an eyesore for the people of Mumbai , 60% of whom live in slums and struggle to cover thier heads. Ratan Tata was aboslutely right in pointing out this and there was no need to retract his comments.

I dont know why everyone making big news about Antilla. Poor people are suffering not because of Ambani, but because of poor governence, and 60 years of Congress rule. In this forum no one has ever pointed out Mittal's London Palace. Let the rich build huge building and meantime poor will get get job through the investment made by rich people.

Wake up blogger, if u have some common sense u would not have said this. Do u know how much profits these corporates make on their products? for eg a small soap costing the company 1-2 Rs is sold to u at 20-25Rs. Essetnial commodities like water which cost nothing to the company approx 1Re is now being sold at Rs 15. list is unlimted and unending. Requet u to garner some common sense. These politicains are nothing but puppents in the hands of capitalist. Did u ever see the govt going against the corporates? and making a budget that suits a common man? No. Not possible as these parties across all party lines will not get donations for the party otherwise. Forget about the black money they give to these netas.
Some how common sense is most uncommon.
Theres enough in this world for all mand need but not for one mans greed. So some of them are TATAs & Ambanis also.
Every yr 70000 people in india die of starvation.
And the cost at which Atilla is build is Around Rs 4500 crore....

Dont compare slums with others home which are made with hard earned money. Slums exist illegally on someone elses land. It is a form of encroachment. If you are so concerned with these illegal shanties plight...why dont you give some portion of land u have (if ?)to house these slums...Also the builder is going to rehouse these slum residents ...but as usual with the support of these so called NGO's they always want more of the pound of flesh....Greedy buggers.

actually the main culprits are the politicians in connivance with BMC. Both make money. the politicians protect their vote bank for their selfish purpose and the municipal authorities makes a quick buck.. honest tax payers, the middle class, have to pay for all the misdeeds of our rulers..the slum dwellers after getting a free home gives it for rent and built slum somewhere elese..hhahahahahha

Solution?
by Nirman on May 25, 2011 11:50 AM

There is no solution except stop the inflow and develop satellite towns and areas within 500 kms of metros so that people donot come to this cities for employment. This is actually very simple if there is a will to do it.

instead of sittin under a tent why does not this patkar start rebuilding the homes destroyed with proper amenities.why not agitate against the authorities to give proper infrastructure to the slums like peoper sewage and toilet facilities and drinking water.first of all it is the politicians who encourage these slums to come up to have vote banks.

This dumb lady wants to do away with the cut-off dates for rehabilitation of slum tenants. Does she have any idea how this will promote the mushrooming of more slums and the burden this will impose on the civic amenities of Mumbai? Sometimes one wonders if such social activists have even a basic grasp of the issues they are fighting for.

All politicians ruling as well as opposition are supporting not only Shivalik but all big builders in this City. Govt instead of controlling and providing more economical houses to people, helping builders go grab open plots and make more money out of it. All parties (political) are equally chors and have their share in it.
