India requires more power plants
by kumar kn on May 11, 2011 10:58 AM

In India, the Govt doesn't take decisions quickly with the result we have huge escalation costs. The you have the added pressure from environmentalists,
tribals, anti developmentwallahs, etc, etc.with the result that politicians don't take decisions. Modi speeded up the Sardar Sarovar dam inspite of opposition from Medha Patkar, etc and today Gujarat is reaping the benifits.
No doubt, other issues have to be tackled like resettlements, compensation, etc. But once the decision is taken, act fast like the Chinese. There is hardly any state where there is no shortage of power.India requires huge investments in power projects for a growing economy and we require a dynamic pro active Govt which has a vision, plan and a will to act and deliver.Unfortunately we don,t see it in this Govt.

more small power stations than these countries. So, there is no BIG power plants. Countries like France do not have enough space to build 3 or 4 power plants (and they donot want that much too!) and hence they build a BIG one. On the other hand India have to build small power plants in each state for convenience. Think before criticize....

Power Projects in India - Public Opposition
by kapil thaker on May 11, 2011 10:35 AM  | Hide replies

There is lot of opposition to power projects in India. Tehri Dam, Narmada Dam and Jaitapur power projects were severely opposed by NGOs and politicians. How do we expect to make big power plants in India though no one can remain without electricity now?

What do u know about jaitapur plant? Before criticizing people or NGO try to understand the Problems of people sacrificing their land for the project.
If nuclear power is safe why not this project start in Mumbai ( Colaba), in Both places Environmental conditions are same. Let shift Politicians / Rich / to some other place.
Let them sacrifice for nation.

Well said friends, we need to educate ppl. like Kapil Thaker. Basically any project the goverment takes up is just to suck 70% of budget to politicials account. Infact everyone knows this. Better dont advise or suggest any project to goverment/politicians else we'll be in lose like inflation, petrol price increase, more tax, etc

Jai bharath
