by guru on May 12, 2011 02:37 PM  | Hide replies

It is surprising to note that worlds top 4 power generating plant is hydle & they are generating 51000MW of electricity without poluting the earth. On the conterery NGOs run by people like medha patkar & company are objecting to the project like Narmada ( Which partly started operating ) after 45 years of leying foundation stone. there are many more hurdles put by envioromentalists & awating SC nod to go ahead for the completion which will benifit 87% electricity to Maharashtra & MP & Scarcity hit gujarat interms of precious water.

The Narmada sarovar project destroyed the links of an ancient civilization. It was anti people. Poor people in the catchment areas were dislocated without adequate compensation and relief. Their anscestors were living there since thousands of years. people have to suffer without any benefits. The benefit goes to industrialists of Gujarat. The social audit and Environment Impact Assessment are all against the project. Mr. Guru if you don't know, please don't reveal ur ignorance.

Dear Guest
Dont be biased , in todays context most of the people living in urben or rural have to migrate from one place to another place for earning bread & livelyhood. Also whatsever legal obligation was to be carried out by Gujarat Govt. has completed long before fact Gujarat has to collect around 900 crores from MP & Maharashtra. As far as electricity is concern 87% of electricity is to be given to MH & MP & water is catered to desert areas of Kutch, saurastra & North Gujarat as drinking water & wont be used by industries. Better update your knowledge.

Think 100 times before going for aggresive comments. Dont forget the accident happend in Bhopal. Any project the politicians takes up will have a huge self-interest in it like making 70% of money from the project budget....this results in poor quality of the project and ultimatly sufferer will be common ppl.

Electricity - production: 723.8 billion kWh (2010 est.)
Electricity - consumption: 568 billion kWh (2010 est.)

So much so that India even exports electricity to Bangladesh and Nepal.
