idiot why you want more cars to become number 1 in a dubious field, already indian cities are jampacked with cars and what not and in China which is number 1 there are 50 miles traffic jams and world highest rate of lung cancer, Is this you want for the next generation ? FOOL !

Watch your language..
India doesn't have to consume all cars it produces. Just like China doesn't consume everything it produces. The money it can make from being a production powerhouse can be spent on education and healthcare for children.

to update ur brains, by Forbes this year china has 115 billionaires and india has a number of 55. china has world's third most dollar millionaire households (670,000)only after the US and Japan, while this figure in india is 139,000. In china, there'r no slums, while in india the slumdogs, malnutrition children, and the beggars without clothes are No. 1 in the world. don't u feel shame to talk about human rights in front of china? check UN record u'll know what india ranks there.

Good point. Even for UK, the writer says it is home to brands like Land rover, Jaguar...When will these people start calling LR and Jaguar as TATA and therefore Indian brands?

btw, I like the chinese way..they took IBM computers which was a premium brand in the market and renamed it to Lenovo. Very gutsy move but customers didn't mind and Lenovo is doing well now

you fool(chalta hai),have you been to shanghai,it has five tier clover leaf elevated roads, there is no traffic jam in shanghai.what about india having the maximum number of children with malnutrition, first in anaemic mothers,much- much lower than china in human development index, even lower than srilanka, pakistan & sub-sahara african countries. read & consult britanica encylopedia, wikipedia, philips world atlas etc., before writing something . as your name suggest, you are a chalta hai,no seriousness, only "hawaii batey".

I do not agree, Till Maruti / Hero honda / Vespa (scooters)/Yamaha/sizuki entered indian market ,local manufacturers like Bajaj,Premier, ambessdor, did not do anything except making money out of scrap they were offering to indian public. These local companies did not bother to do any kind of R&D or increase productions to cater the demand , In 1970s Priya scooter or Bajaj super scooter were selling at a premium of Rs. 9000/= , today nobody will believe it but it is a fact . These companies woke up & became customer friendly only when they started facing competition from new enterences.

how come china is biggest manufacturer of cars?
by biswanath roy on Mar 23, 2011 12:59 PM  | Hide replies

how come china is biggest manufacturer of cars? in indian business journals it is mentioned that china being a communist country(closed society), and with most of the industries being under the public sector, the wages of the employees specially in the middle & higher group is lesser than india. due to india opening to the world in 1991,privatisation has increased in leaps, salary in the upper strata has risen extensively, & people have money, & with manageable interest rates for vehicle loans the vehicle purchases is bursting thru the roof. then how come the chinese car market is 4 times our size? can someone enlighten me on this.are the indian business journals just writing propaganda stuff, which is way away from reality?

Mr. Roy - rare few Indian journals clearly put forward factual information. The rest just jazz-up second hand information. You have noted the views of those replying to you who actually visit / observe China.
Why just automobiles, consider the core Steel sector. Starting much after India in late fifties today they produce and consume more than 3 times that of India. They stopped buying technology from Europe or Japan long back and are supplying technology and eqipment to many countries including India. Outside the steel sector very few of public is actually aware of this huge backwardness of India because journalists do not go into the depth of the situation.
We never find substantive analytical reporting in India as the business journalists just don't have the calibre or inclination to deal with the facts.

my advice to u mr roy is visit china this year, see their cities, urban infrastructure- roads/bridges/rails etc., & u will get a glimpse of why china is number one in the world with regard to cars manufacture. i frequently visit china on business, & have seen the country & its cities,& my advice to you is do not read these indian/american/british business journals they are paid to write anti-chinese articles. alternately i have seen american/british firms delegations frequently visiting china & participating in global tenders.

We Hindi speakers must try to shift car production mainly to Hindi belt. Gurgaon (Haryana) and Noida (UP) are already pretty good, but we must establish more factories near towns like Allahabad, Gorakhpur, and Patna for all round development of the Hindi belt.
