Whats indian ?Whats foreign
by sk ms on Mar 01, 2011 06:50 PM

Whats indian car and foreign car ? Are you defining made in india as indian or the manufacturer is indian company ? in either case Kizashi is not indian . Only indian manufactures are Tata and Mahindra.. But if you consider made in india as indian then some of these like toyota have a unit in India. The whole article and title is intended to confuse people and make them believe something.. Its like saying "The pizzas available at the dhabha are better compared to the rotis and kababs in KFC " didnt that confuse people ?

Where is Ford Figo or Nissan Micra manufactured and where is Kizashi made ? Its as much imported as a BMW .. again VW is having a unit in india and vento is not CBU ..Also by either definition is jaguar indian or foreign ?

Indian Cars - made in india by manufacturer who has considerable base in india.
Foreign cars -Made by a forein manufactured outside india as CBU

Go by that and see if the title is true ? if thats teh case it makes sense ..

Definately good car.
I purchased 2 months back
Good mileage of around 25 kmpl on plain highways with 4 persons in car and with AC on.
Mileage of 22 on hilly roads with 4 persons and AC on.
I have driven Nano on non motorable roads also for around 50 kms stretch.Ground clearance is superb and I have driven it on roads for trekkers and bullock carts also.
I Continuosly driven Nano for 330 kms and no problems at all.
In one day,I covered 412 kms with this car.
I can comfortably drive Nano at speed of 80 kmph for as many hours till next petrol refilling without any problem.
Nano also runs smooth at speed of 100 but not recommended for good mileage.
Fiat Punto have slight problems in climbing a slope but Nano climbs the slope easily.I seen this last week when I was climbing a steep slope,The car ahead of me was a Fiat Punto with only 2 people in it whereas in my Nano there were 4 people but still punto started loosing momentum on that slope and started coming reverse for some distance.
Well the driver for punto was a experienced one whereas I was driving a nano and I am a beginner.
Thus gear ratio for Nano is good.
nano has gradeability of 30% which itself tells that Nano can climb the slopes in the difficult Himalayan terrian also without any problem.
I find Nano almost equivalent to Indica.

Nano is good car and no problem if driven max till 80 kmph on highways.

indian cars are the crappiest
by Kungfu Panda on Mar 01, 2011 04:18 PM  | Hide replies

i think the person who wrote this article knows only about bullock carts and autos. Foreign cars are way more expensive in India than most of the other countries. this is because of 100% customs duty on imported cars imposed by govt on the buyer to discourage him from buying foreign cars. the main agenda is to protect the crap and bad quality indian cars from foreign competition. because if there are no duties on imported cars and tata safari would cost the same as honda crv i.e., 12 lakhs. No idiot would buy the crap indian cars like nano, tata indica, ambassador etc if there is no duty on foreign cars. The indian car manufacturers would go bankrupt if import duties are removed on foreign cars

The only hope is most Indian "idiots" don't live in cities like yours. Indian cars are better on Indian road condition than any of the "foren" counterparts, given any day of the week. Our small town buddies will keep looking for Indica and Ambassador, however loud you idiots shout.

what makes you think that indian cars are better on indian road conditions? have you ever driven an SUV like Pajero or Fortuner? I bet you to drive them in villages, small towns, forests and compare them with mahindra, indica before talking crap. any day foreign cars are by far better than indian cars be it good roads, bad roads, villages or forests. and the only reason these indian cars sell is because they don't have duties imposed on them. otherwise no way they can compete with foreign cars.

I agree. I drive a Nissan Rogue in USA which i have taken on a 3 year lease. The MSRP is USD 21,000 dollars (INR 9,45,000). You can never buy a Nissan Rogue at that price in India. It will easily cost around 20-22 Lakhs INR!! The Indian buyers are cheated by the Government (taxes on the car) and the car manufacturers.

Who says Ambassdor is Crap. Like Enfield Bullet , Ambassdor have its own Loyal Riders. The comfort, power & Safe driving which Ambassdor provides is unmatchable ( Ask any driver in Hill Station / countryside ) . Only problem is that New generation wants New Brand Cars & Ambassdor is considered Old Fashion , just like Enfield Bullet.

the solution to development and prosperity is to compete with foreign cars and make better products. the solution is not to stop buying foreign cars. by buying indian cars you are only promoting incompetency and inefficieny as they will never innovate since they don't have the need and technology to do it. the main reason indian manufacturers have become complacent and incompetant because they don't have threat from the superior foreign cars as they have duties imposed on them as a result of which only few cars get sold compared to indian cars. My point is that in terms of pricing and quality, american, european and japanese cars are way better. its only because of the govt's attitude of protecting tatas and bajajs that duties are imposed on foreign cars. there is a powerful lobby by indian automobile manufacturers and bigwigs who do not want the duties to be reduced on foreign cars as they know they won't have a chance to survive if that happens. so they influence and put pressure on the govt to keep the restrictions in place. so the indian govt is protecting these industrialists and not the common man as you seem to believe.

Kungfu, govt duties of 100% are only to promote manufacturing in India, not to necessarily protect Indian industrialists.

Nothing stops Toyota, Nissan, etc from setting up manufacturing facilities in India and making cars. These would then be taxed identically to Indian manufacturers.

Already many of them are doing it - Suzuki (technically controls Maruti), Hyundai, Ford and Chevy.

Others are joining the fray like Nissan, Toyota, etc.

It is stupid for India to open up markets to import completely built units from abroad. We will never have local jobs then, and then who will have money to buy cars? Only software engineers?

Your point about quality and price is right, but I fully agree with stringent taxation on CBU car imports. If anyone wants it so badly, pay the 100%tax and show off.

Most Indians want safe public transportation or basic cars. Not fancy gas guzzlers when India is already importing 80% of fuel reqmts.

In fact I think India shd impose a Rs 5,000-25,000 annual road tax on cars to discourage proliferation of cars and use the money to subsidize public transport.

These cars are only for show off and make a joke of the poor people.

We have a legacy of servitude and foreign worship. We take pride in denouncing everything Indian - forgetting that we are Indian .Toyota - the epitome of Quality is forced to take back lakhs of car for Quality. Yet we worship it and take great pride in publishising a few failure cases of NANO , as it is an Indian car .Suggest drive NANO and realise value for money . What is the use for 10 airbags and 0 to 300 KMPH in 3 seconds in Indian context ? Have National pride - use Indian products even if slightly inferior - to build strong, self-reliant India and secure its future .

AT least they had accepted there is some problem with the quality and taken back the cars without considering the warranty period. Where as In India I suppose they will just try to do some show of repairing the thing and will allow the driver to drive unsafe car. what's your view on this? I do not understand if Nano can be manufactured in 1 lakh why a good SUV can not be manufactured at a decent price say 5 Lakhs/ In most of the western countries even you can get an expensive car like mercedez or bmw or audit in much cheaper price .

Buddy, you are comparing Lemon with Apples. ( I wont call a lemon as Orange).

In USA, you can get a Toyota Corolla (the Apple) for $16,000 and in India you cant even get a Tata NANO (the Lemon) for $2500.

chalta hai, are you an idiot? All imported cars in USA cost half of what they cost in India. For example honda CRV costs 12 lakhs in USA where as in india it is 24 lakhs. this is because of 100% customs duty on imported cars. you won't even get a nano for 2500$
