If we r good enough to create so many jobs no one would go out of the country.there is no bloody dignity of labour in our country @ all.

India and Indians are fu**ed
by Sammer Agarwal on Jan 19, 2011 06:16 AM  | Hide replies

We are all screwed. Goldman Sachs is about to crash the party at Dalal Street. High interests rates are aournd the corner. Builders, politicians and industrials will move money out of India now. Rupee will crash. Indians will not be able to afford onions, ginger, garlic, fuel, rice. Everything will be rationed. Poor will riot, rich will move out. In short we are back to pre 47 levels. Get out now or be prepared to rot...good luck

Who is Indias True patriotic LEADER/Billions follow whom
by Alice Janho on Jan 19, 2011 12:34 AM  | Hide replies

If India has two leaders patriotic honest non corrupt who billions could follow and who could set a example then India has made it,Unfortunately there is none except Dr Kalam or Vajpayee who no longer rules India. The Inspector sitting in panchayat pretends not to see or know customers when complaints are filed. Then how can common man escape from corruption ,so it flows from top to very bottom, gets ingrained in genes acquired or inherited from dynasty to unknown commoners.Today Indians are scared to go anywhere near a govt office terrified of scamsters inside.Even Educated lawyers Lie blatantly, lie about power water ,health disease.Scary and fearful God bless India and God bless all Indians.

Be encouraged, more encouraged
by Dinesh Jain on Jan 19, 2011 12:29 AM

I think for all the reasons the writer has written, it is for Indians to be encouraged and more encouraged. He is highlighting the half glass empty and while I looked at his description of half full glass also. and hence my comment.
Besides the writer is more on rhetoric and less on data (facts and figures). If Indian economy is growing at 8.9% currently and future by all economists especially from world bank is even better then what is this rhetoric. Only the defeatist Indians feel this way. Truly free and independent Indians look at challenges and get encouraged to solve rather than being afraid, Mr. Shishir Bhate. Hope you write some encouraging words too.

Indeed, we need to get things moving properly in INDIA
by Vishnu Sharma on Jan 19, 2011 12:12 AM

In a timely fashion and there should be severe punishments for not delivering.

Lawmakers and bureaucrats will need to denounce corruption, introduce a robust work ethic, implement projects on time, and fulfill their promises.

This, can only happen after politics is totally cleaned up with only people who pass a common entrance exams who can become eligible to hold office.

Anyone cannot become a politician in India
Only a few qualified people who have a proven track record should be allowed to become politicians.

Reality shows
by adi on Jan 18, 2011 10:46 PM

There are a number of reality shows these days. people are asked to vote out the least favourite candidate. Why can't the same thing be done to corrupt politicians involved in scams. Let the corrupt politicians give explanations on national tv in 4-5 episodes and then ask people to vote. each mobile should be linked to PAN number or any other ID so as to establish uniqueness.

how corruption can be controlled - just a thought
by adi on Jan 18, 2011 10:44 PM  | Hide replies

Each public dept, should publish the list of officers and standard ETA for all government tasks on the website with an option of writing reviews. Each time a common man is asked to pay bribe or if there is huge delay in execution of tasks, people can post the same information against the respective officer. The government should have a committee to review these results and take strict action against the bottom 10% of officers. This should send the message that - shape up or shape out to one and all.

RTI is a similar initiative but, it's something that one has to do proactively and lack of information on how to use the tool works in favour of offenders rather than common man.

Each city should have it's own website to share all information about development work, budget and expenses.
All expenses/contractor details should be clearly published in the website. For example- construction of roads etc. Once the work is done, if the quality is not good, people can write feedback and if the bad feedback reaches beyond a certain number, the contractor can be barred for future. At the same time other local contractors can post their quotes for the same work. this will help common man know whether the tax payer's money is being efficiently utilized or not.
