Genome Valley.
by Bibhu Prasad Acharya on Jan 07, 2011 03:55 PM  | Hide replies

I was the Secretary to Govt of AP in charge of Biotechnology, when the biotech cluster was taking shape in the outskirts of Hyderabad, which was adjacent to the facility of Dr Ella.We had to plan each of the elements required for making a truly class cluster and after nearly a decade of relentless efforts Genome Valley has emerged as Biotech hub of India. In this regard, apart from my predecessor Dr Sheila Bhide, who responded to DrElla's suggestions, the State Biotech Advisory Committee headed by eminent Scientists Dr D. Balasubramanian and later Dr Syed Hasnain, and Consultants of Ernst and Young Mr Utkarsh Palnitkar and Mr Vishal Goel gave valuable inputs in the making of the Genome Valley. The idea mooted by Dr Ella has truly become a big success with over 100 biotech/life science companies in the Cluster. We are proud of this. My congratulations to Dr Krishna Ella and his team.
BP Acharya,
Principal Secretary,Home Dept.
Govt of Andhra Pradesh,
Secrtariat, Hyderabad

Well Done All!

Historically, biz. tradition favours networking, --> trading (1'st retail, then wholesale) --> Marketing --> Assembling/Manufacturing.

Interesting to read Dr. Ella's " According to me, every company has to start with R&D, then manufacturing and after that only comes marketing. "

Idea- Re: BP Acharya's addendum
seeking a share in the limelight-nothing wrong except one would like to see dozens more said parks established through your info., links and contacts. Hopefully there is a consultancy operation in play directly or by proxy, others may want to set up too.

Cow or Buffalo is basic-supporter for many families in villages
by chandrasuperman@rediffmail.com on Jan 07, 2011 03:28 PM

(1) "Their livelihood and the child's education both depended on the milk the cow gave" -- very much true -- Cow or Buffalo is basic-supporter for many families in villages... this is second to agriculture... even agricultural-workers without land will have 1 or 2 cows or buffalos.

(2) "I have found that farmers who are not committing suicide are the ones who have one or two cows" -- also true -- when one of my relatives family transferred their milk giving buffalo's and depended on agriculture entirely, they suffered for 3-4 years... back to normal now thanks for their new buffalos.

But, I heard the average milk produced per cattle is very low in India compared to other countries (as I read in "India Vision 2020" by A.P.J. Abdul Kalam et al (sponsored by TIFAC)).

So, if measures are take to improve this yield, it will really boost village economy (still, the grass-root supporter for Indian economy).

I had the opportunity to associate with him on creating branding modules for some of his initiatives in the vetnary and mineral water projects and it was indeed a stimulating and an inspirational experience.

We need multitudes of Ella's today to make India - Truly Shining.
