thank you sir
by krishnadhadke2@rediffmail.com on Jan 10, 2011 01:27 AM

I have always dreamed of becoming a doctor to serve poor people as they do not have the financial capacities to prevent or treat the disease but I was not fortunate enough.
After completing my Msc in Virology from National Institute of Virology, Pune a premier virus research laboratory in India under aegis of Indian Council of Medical Research. Dr.Ella has given me a chance to work in Bharat Biotech International Limited.
I feel that I am serving my country by contributing and strengthening Dr. Ella's vision of cheap, effective and appropriate vaccines make available to those who need them.
I feel proud and honored thank you sir.

The man must be simple or honest. His clear description of the enemies of scientist entrepreneurs are really worth reading. India has so much intellectual-ego baggage it is no surprise new guys never make it happily. It's not just in software!
I just don't know how we became such crabs. The British clearly succeeded brilliantly.

The institutions from which this great man received his degrees in the US (mentioned in the article) are mediocre at best.

It is so amusing to see Indian media salivating at the mere mention of foreign institutions when there are greater and better institutions in India!

University of Wisconsin-Madison is mediocre??????

According to current USNews, it is ranked 45th in the US National Universities.

Please do your research before commenting.

Name some better universities in India which is ranked above this University in the World University rankings. India's most rated IIT is ranked 187 in World University ranking 201, while UW-Madison is ranked 17th among World Universities. I hope this facts will open your eyes. IITs are India's premier institute, but the quality of research is not comparable to US Universities

The article is not about the institutions Dr. Ella studied at; it is about how he created a world class biotech firm in India; one man's vision and conviction that if you have the drive and compassion, you can create the best and be successful despite the drawbacks and smallmindedness so prevalent in our country especially towards entreprenuers. Instead of wasting time with useless comparisons, politics, rhetorics and accusations let us start a healthy discourse about creating business oppurtunities for the young grads from great Indian schools.
Thank you Dr.Ella for sharing your experience. I am sure it will motivate a lot of people to take the first step in realizing their dream into a reality.

You must be a jealous person. I am shocked to hear that University of Wisconsin is mediocre. Apart from high National ranking, it is one of the best for research in Virology. Some of the best Virologists in the world are located there. Morover good science does not have to come from major universities alone. Take Abdul Kalam, who was a good Science administrator/ engineer- where did he get his education from( Who ever heard of Madras Institute of Technology?). Did Srinivasa Ramanujan go to a great University before going to England?

You must be out of your mind. I was in Madison, WI and also happen to know and a friend of Ella K. University of Wisconsin is a top notch University and a leader in bio-tech areas. So, there are no takers for your opinion. Irrespective of comments, who care Ella made it big and that is a big news for him and his well wishing friends.

congrats to Dr Ella, he deserves the credit for his work and contribution to indian Biotech industry. Incidentally I was the First Director of Biotechnology in the team headed by Dr Acharya and it was really a worth while experience to be a part of the India's first Biotech cluster. Mr Ella and many other progressive scientists and enterprising
personalities have contributed and are still doing very good job to serve the humanity at large and Indian people in particular. many more such persons are required to make India free from dreadful diseases. COngrats to dr Ella and team once again

As long as JOBS are created ,and given to people in a good way this is good as well
For example say Bahart biotech employs 100 people to start with
that is 100 Families
100 families shopping in Hyd
100 families buying clothes
100 families opening bank accounts and home loans
so it is like a stone thrown across still water like ripples
If Hyd will not welcome him then someone somewhere like
DUBAI OR QATAR OR SYDNEY OR SINGAPORE WILL
SO let us get the jobs going
As long as taxes are paid no illegal land is grabbed
no shortcuts then it is OK

Why supply to Pakistan?
by Rahul R on Jan 08, 2011 05:18 AM  | Hide replies

I really admire this man for his vision. I however dont support him providing 10mn cheap subsidized doses to Pakistan. They are sending terrorists to India and killing Hindus and we go out and supply them with cheap medicines so that they can live longer? This is ridiculous.

Mark of a true entrepreneur. It is a great example set by Dr. Krishna Ella to address public health care that needs far more attention by the policy makers.
