From the front it looks like Swift Diesel, from the rear it looks like Siwft Dezire. The engine and performance needs to be seen. It cannot compete with VW, Skoda and Honda Civic/ Accord. Poor little Maruti, too ugly and cheap for the aam junta, too simple and rural for the rich...

hehe. You have no idea. Why dont you read up on this car. It outperforms civic. Is supposed to be in the same class as accord. Has handling closer to audi since it was the design goal. You need to shed your tag prestige.

Sure if it suits your purpose. I still drive a 99 model car even though i can afford a far better one. Car is utility or could be passion, but should not be status.
In my opnion having lived in India for a long time and then having moved away, Maruti is the bane of the our country. A illegal company created by Indira and Sanjay Gandhi. This one company has kept technology and pleasure of driving away from the paying Indian public. Their machines are joke, and their monopoly disgusting. I would sya people have more options now than they did years ago, so teach them a lesson. Boycott their products.

I have already boycotted Maruti. I was looking for a entry level car and hence I was looking for Alto but after taking test drive of Tata Nano,I decided to go for it. Nano is good than M800 and good for even long drives also. The gap between Suzuki Corporation and Tata Motors is decreasing and very soon Tata Motors is all set to become Indias no 1 company in passenger cars.

Also 16.5 lakhs = roughly 30K $, you can buy a brand new BMW 328 or an Audi A4 or Mercedes E 220.

Don't convert INR to USD directly- there is something known as PPP as well. Tell me any BMW/ Merc/ Audi u can buy in India for 16.5 lakhs. Hell, even the Accord costs more than 25 lakhs.

Never buy any CBU . Its import duty or whatever but you are paying double the cost from pocket is it worth ? Should suzuki make a luxury sedan is their choice and should one buy it is customers choice.. will we react the same way if BMW comes up with a 2 lakh car competing with nano ? entering a segment is the manufacturers choice..
How it is called as Maruti?? On every cars from Maruti Suzuki, there is the S logo of Suzuki. It is Suzuki Corporation and not Maruti Suzuki. So it should be only Suzuki Kizashi and not Maruti Kizashi Whosoever the author of this post please correct this mistake.

It is not Maruti anymore- it is only Suzuki. Suzuki is using the Maruti brandname in India coz people associate themselves with it.
from the posts below it is clear that the government is earning a lot from these cars being imported. it will earn 8 lakhs from each Kizashi sold. And there are BMWs, Mercs, Audis etc selling from a long time as completely built units (CBUs). Now what does the government do with all this money? Does it give us the roads to drive these vehicles on? What is the operating ratio (amount of money spent in earning 100 rupees) of government of India?
2.4 Ltr DOHC Engine with a promised fuel efficiency of 12.4 KMPL in city conditions; impressive.
Engine specs compare favourably with Honda Accord.
Yet as Kizashi is a CBU it attracts more than 100% as customs duty which if you factor it in should be half of it as its original cost.
Besides as the car is built in Japan where labour costs shoot through the roof the actual value addition in cost terms should be lower.
A 2.4 Ltr engine with a manual transmission is meant for increasing fuel efficiency which is the prime concern for any and every Indian irrespective of the economic class he or she belongs to.
Unless it is a drivers car, manual transmission if it had to be chauffer driven will ruin the car. Automatic would have been a better choice even if you lose a kilometer or two in the bargain. It more than offsets the cost of repairs when chauffers handle it badly.
No wonder, BMW at the time of making its debut in India wanted all the chauffers of its prospective buyers compulsorily trained them at their workshops on how to handle the beamers.
Needs to be seen the quality of chassis, suspension etc.
May be Maruti and Suzuki would have launched this car under a different brand name instead of Suzuki which is seen in India and elsewhere an inferior brand, particularly brand conscious Indians
