INDIANS ARE SELFISH
by vivek srivastava on Oct 19, 2010 02:46 PM  | Hide replies

The basic problem with India is that Indians are very selfish. We are bothered only about our own interests and that of our families. This is the reason why Indians are unable to follow simple social rules like standing in queue, driving in the correct lane etc. Indians are less socially responsible than developed countries. This culture reflects in the attitude of our politicians too.Its of no use blaming politicians because they originate in Indian society. Their only aim is to amass wealth sufficient for many generations. This is because of the uncertainty in politics. Politicians have no long-term vision for the country and hence compromise on any issue provided their 'interests' are satisfied.Indian citizens also have a large role to play because they elect a politician based on caste, creed, religion etc. This is done with the selfish hope that when he comes to power he would do some favour for them. Now if the elected politician has to do some favour for that particular person he has to overlook another meritorious Indian. This sets a bad precedent and affects every sphere of governance. Unless the common man realizes this and votes for meritorious candidates, India can only dream about competing with China.

I am not sure if Indian democracy is good
by Cric Fan on Oct 19, 2010 12:52 PM

Our constitution ensures every citizen a vote, but see the result now. Most of these politicians are either out and out crooks, or they compromise their ideals to allow the crroks to rule and indulge in all kinds of power games to stay in power. The current political crisis in Krnataka is a prime example of misuse of money and power. It doesn't matter which party, because all are tarred by the same brush.

China, despite the claims of the critics, is growing fast and using every trick in the book to beat the west and India, to come on top. Their political system may be just Commie rule for ever, but in the past few decades they have risen to the top in almost all fields. Today, they have the fastest train systems, because they had no qualms to buy the latest tech from Europe or Japan and improve on it. Their will to work hard and be the best is admirable.
Indian system, in rare cases like IT, does not breed such excellence because of the vision-less crooks who are ruling the roost. Their only vision is how to fill their pockets with ill-gotten wealth.
The Indian people have accepted waelth and lucre as their Gods. Who are admired most in India, the super rich and the movie stars. Also, some shady characters who have become big due to ill-gotten wealth. Its only money, money, money as the ABBA sang. Money withour morality is going to ruin this great nation. Indians need to wake up fast.

Congratulations to China.
by Bharatiar on Oct 10, 2010 08:10 PM  | Hide replies

I heartily congratulate the Chinese people on their economic rise. It's quite an achievement.

*However*, I'd never want India to take the Chinese route of development. I would NEVER, EVER want to be a subject to a ruler again in my country, no matter what prosperity is offered to me. As a citizen, I want to be free.

Yes, India is very imperfect, corruption, there's dynastic politics, etc. - but these are anomalies that WILL be corrected. They exist because Indian citizens are not as politically active as they should be. We still expect to be "ruled" - we must come to terms with the fact that we ARE the rulers and behave accordingly. Our constitution gives us the weapons to cure our own ills.

I think the article is an eye opener. India does not have a stable policy because indian politicians are not visionaries. We have to do the same things as what others do. Manufacture goods from india should be used in India we should fiollow the Chinese policy for the same with blue print and tech transfer.

That is exactly your india's problem, everybody wants to be ruler. End of the day, there is no ruler. This is not democracy, this is anarchy. A good example is the preparation of CWG. Only a few high caste people in india enjoy so called democracy but most low income and low caste people only enjoy dirty poor and anarchy. Your democracy is a failed and fake democracy only being decorated by so called free election which only elect corrupted, uneducated, selfish and big mouth craps.

> That is exactly your india's problem, everybody wants to be ruler.

Your argument definitely has merits.

But perhaps you should look at things from an Indian's viewpoint. For most of history the common man in India was a subject to miscellaneous Emperors, Nawabs, Maharajahs and Zamindars. It's for the FIRST TIME EVER that Indians have become politically free. This freedom has a great emotional value to all Indians, including the common man. There's a saying in Malayalam that goes, it doesn't matter if a bird is in a golden cage; a cage is still a cage. This value is ingrained in our DNA.

Yes, I fully admit that the current setup is vastly imperfect. But just think about it - China has had to pay a terrible price for it's current prosperity. The cultural revolution comes to mind. The ruler just wished his subjects to do something, and millions of subjects vanished overnight.

I am just being greedy here - we want to have the best of both the worlds: solid political action AND the luxury of being a free and equal citizen in our ancestral labnd. China - and in a small way, India - has shown that economic progress can be made in a couple of decades. I'm optimistic!

Like I said, I am a great admirer of China. But I really wouldn't want to be a Chinese citizen. Perhaps, like you mention, it's because I have escaped the uglier side of India.

Caste descrimination has reduced drastically. The future danger for India is the class descrimination. The wealth bening venerated regardless of its origin. That is the worst thing about Indians now!!!

Ur 100% right, but let me also tell you

1. Mayawati (now CM of UP and greatly famous for her fantastic endless corruption) was a jobless poor woman of lower caste

2. Laloo at one point lower caste poor, but went on to do a Railway Miracle now taught in HArward,

3.Venkatraman, ex president, went to school without shoes, was poor and lower caste.

4. Shastriji, a higher caste but extreme poor, went on to become a PM.

Well there are many stories like that. India is enigma, if u can crak it you will crak Nirvana !!!

Indains have lot of worries. First and foremost, that china is rising. Just i ask myself what i have done for my nation to-day to imprve its GDP. Practically nothing. How we can expect to be superseding that Nation which is steadily progressing through their team work irrespective of any hurdle. We can only boast about ourselves, that our fore faters were so and so but exactly what we are. Can we be a party to add into this Nations GDP or we pose hidrences to dissudate the person trying to help the country.

send away all outsourcing to china
by gali on Oct 07, 2010 01:19 AM

no problems.already there are repercussions in the US regarding Outsourcing. It is unfortunate that people in US live on unemployment and their jobs be sent away to india or china for saving costs. This is a huge mistake.
I guess in 10 years, there will be no outsourcing.because Americans cannot live on unemployment for centuries together.
