So much for the thought
by MONIDEEP GUPTA on May 21, 2010 02:09 PM

Nice to see messages full of hatred for bengalis !!! this is but obvious that when one particular sect or clan is highlighted the others feel jealous and start abusing ... but that only adds to their misery !!!

Instead we should look for the good things prevalent in any community and try to adopt them and be careful to filter out the bad things ... no one is perfect and every community plays important role in the progress of the country ... highlighting one particular community is partisan for rediff to do - but still we should not have hard feelings when we see a particular community flourishing ...

Bengali and English
by Sujit Maharana on May 21, 2010 02:08 PM  | Hide replies

When britishers came to India, in calcutta they established their business because they are very fond of bengali women. And bengali men as always busy in litreture and licking britishers. So, initial development started in Kolkata. After britishers dumped them. They are living in past glory. But states like, Andhra, Karnataka, Punjab, Maharatsra are way ahead now. And bongos are living dreaming about past glory.

Man WestBengal is having the 3rd largest GDP despite being such a small state. Kolkata is having the 3rd largest GDP despite problems. Bongs have produced such Nobel prize,Grammy,Pulitzer,Academy award,Cannes Film Festival winners. I know from where u r coming. But my suggestion to you is that let ur community produce 1 Nobel prize winner then come and criticize Bongs. Bong intellect is the best in India.

History

All the different communities in India have a rich cultural heritage. And it requires little bit of culture in our part to appreciate the same. Highly intelligent, enterprising, compassionate individuals are not confined to any particular communities. History says that when the conditions are ready every culture has its high point and then subseqent decline and revival again. The Greeks are having severe economic crisis. Patna of today was Pataliputra of yesterday, lets not forget. Certain communities have inclination towards certain aspects of life ... as of now Marwaris for commerce, Bengalis for academics, Malayalis for Gulf (don't mean any offense to anyone). Do we know that the Pala Empire with its seat in Gauda (Modern day Malda in West Bengal) came to power through first (recorded)democratic election in India and ruled almost all of north india and south for 400 years from 750AD- 1200AD. Well, the bengalis are now 'bhadralok'. People change, times change, tide changes and new colours emerge in trapestry of civilization. Lets not demean and denigrate each other as intellectually or phisically inferior to others. Lets rise above the pettiness we show when we deride marwaris for stealing jobs or bengalis dealing with trivia. There are more instances of the opposite and its rising very fast. Whoever puts honest labour and has compassion for others can achive success and glory in their own terms. He/she can be from any community. I am a proud bengali and a proud Indian.

Another tea party
by ram rahim on May 21, 2010 01:09 PM  | Hide replies

This was nothing but another slob’s tea party where few have beens met and chatted ekto pekto to glorify their stagnated and communist thoughts.

God knows what these few slightly well off Bengalis think of themselves, buggers have nothing but an opinion on everything. They couldn’t move a leaf but these latheriest talks of world movement.

What has happened to Bengal is a mirror of their belief system only, sit, shit and chat meanwhile. What history they have to talk about, where there have been a few only who became famous, and that’s totally a factor or averaging? Out of so many crores few made something of their lives.

The are good adapters though they could well adapt to Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagruh and protests movements, for even 5 paisa tram fare increase these beggars sit on street protesting and holding the entire city for ransom.

I think the most elaborate calendar in India is for Bengalis, where for others there are paid and optional holidays these loosers have even bundhs and protests days also configured in their calendars.

I mean to progress you will have to work first… slobs

New money makes a lot of noise as always. The whole of India was impoverished half a century back. Some very few from a few communities are leading the race of making money as of now. And these individuals think of themselves only and not their community bhaiyaas. If some Ambani, Raju or Murthy summarizes all the achivement of a community, If a Lalu, Mayabati, Mamata, Raja, Jaylalitha defines political achivement, I beg to differ, so would probably many. A bengali man is trying to make a living by working to his best capacity all for himself and his family. He is trying to be happy and doesn't mind having a few more holidays, though its a concern for sometime now. He now moves out to other states. He is probably like you only. He is like the bihari and Marwari who moved to Kolkata for livelihood. He is like the Punjabi, Gujrati, Malayali, Andhra seeking foreign shores. The US folks are now freaking out on Bangalore and its BPOs and the NRIs (what they call them there... pakis?)

But noone except Bengali is moving out to pull rickshaw & work as maid servant in other state. Bengali language is now the language of rickshaw puller and maid servant. I am surprised to see Bengalis in Kolkata speaking Hindi or English at their home with their children.

Its a real concern and the level of povery in Bengal hinterland is apalling. You will find a lot of bengalis in the jewellary sweatshops of Surat. I am at a loss to think of what can be done and what we can do as regular citizen.

Don't go to the past or deep into any matter that hurts the present and the future. Kindly extend your warmth to all Indians. Respect the history. Go ahead and excel in doing good things. Create your own history.

We have so many better things to do than to loose our minds on such rubbish.

I hope all excuse me and join in my thought.

Thanking you,
alur sudhakar
