This looks to be scary because one never knows when a machine can go wrong due to mech/elect/electronic/computer failures, etc. The robot will then behave like a "rogue" surgeon and go beserk ..... chopping away !

Robots and computers do not do the surgery on their own, it is just a tool that is used by a surgeon remotely. It is well established here in Europe. Beside full team of surgeons and staff has to be present in the theater one can not dispense with them.

surgery controlled from a remote (far away place) is only one of the features. it does not mean that the surgery is always done from far away places. for example, in MPUH Nadiad, the surgeon will be sitting next to the patient on a console as shown in the pictures above, and conducting the surgery. More than 130 robotic-assisted surgeries have been performed at MPUH Nadiad as of Dec-2011. It is safe with superior outcome for patients.

What if the doctor dies of heart stroke :D. Trust me , its very safe but I will never favour in doing surgery from remote location unless its not really really crucial.
To all my friends posting message on this thread, be thankful that this hospital is doing an exceptional job in kidney disease diagnosis and treatment. Many of you may know that Nadiad and central Gujarat is replent with the scourge of diabetes - which eventually leads to kidney disease. This hospital has been a boon to thousands of patients around Nadiad and as far away as Vidharb in Maharastra who need kidney dialysis, surgical treatment, replacement, and other life sustaining treatments. Thanks, Dr. Maheshbhai Desai and your team for being true servent of our city.

Gujjus are so lost in business that they might have forgotten physical activity. This should change. A human body cannot endure too much of happiness and inactivity.

Krishna, this tool will perform surgery for Urological diseases. It doesn't matter which state is first as long as needy are served. Well done, Dr. Desai

Again Krishna, the cost may be high but there are charity organizations such as Santram Mandir, Dharmsinh Desai Trust, Mission Trust, etc., that will help pay for the surgeries to those who could not afford it. I'm aware of this since I'm from Nadiad, and has donated money to this fine hospital.

arey yaar....im arguein tht there are no big benefits for the amnt spent on robotic surgery...
patient recovery time remains same with laproscopic surgery.
telemedicine already in practice for doctors to treat patients in remote areas..
the only advantage of robotic surgery is precision..but it comes with lots of trainin..
tht doesnt mean laproscopic isnt precise..
For any good surgeon...both are robotic nd normal laproscopic is equal

From Wikipedia
While the use of robotic surgery has become a item in the advertisement of medical services, critics point out that studies that indicate that long-term results are superior to those after laparoscopic surgery are lacking. The robotic system does not come cheap and has a learning curve. Data are absent to show that the increased costs can be justified. In the medical literature, very experienced surgeons tend to publish their results, these, however, may not be representative of surgeons with lesser experience

Krishna Samy, you do know that the wikipedia content is edited by people like you and me right? It may well have been written by you in wikipedia. It is not the most reliable source of information. Robotic surgery helps reduce the many human errors in critical operations and removes human emotional element.

Neelam, your is a nice sentiment, but this is not about Modi. The hospital has been there for the past 30 plus years, and has been doing a wonderful job.
Yes, Mr. Modi is doing an exceptional job in promoting health well being of the state, but he had no contribution to this hospital and to this advance option. Let's try to be objective and not discredit those who deserves credit such as Dr. Mahesh Desai and his team.

Sanjay, please see my reply to Neelam's posting. Let's give credit to Dr. Mahesh Desai and his team. They are the deserving party, not Mr. Modi. Although, he's doing a great job promoting basic health for every Gujarati.
Its really heartwarming to see that Rs 10 cr will be spent on saving and making a common mans life easy in comparison to the Rs 200 cr Garland that was being splurged yesterday....in UP. Gujarat is showing a very futuristic approach ,that it cares about common people

Bharatbhai, thanks for your comments. I too feel proud of this hospital as I'm from Nadiad and used to live nearby. It's doing an exceptional work in the field of disease treatment and prevention. And yes, I too also wish there would be more such hospitals, or atleast a specialty department in hospitals, where thousands of people who suffers from this disease can get treatment. Nadiad Kidney Hospital used to be the 3rd kidney hosptial in India, but I'm sure there are now many more.
