Doesnt fetch votes
by Jitesh Agrawal on Jul 20, 2010 09:57 AM

Does unveiling the symbol fetch votes or opportunity to play politics?????? NO. so how can one expect congress to have a grand unveiling ceremony for it????

What congress is intrested in is the hard currencies which that symbol signifies. People should be well aware congress has a different defination for partriotism and national pride.

Adoption of the new symbol for the Indian rupee which fully reflects the dignoty, honour & respect of Indianness & its culture is sure to usher our economy in a new era-to the great dismay of the entire world.Though it is not always accepted by the socalled rationalists, certain things do bring prosperity & the new symbol is certain to bring India more & more prosperity. In fact,it is a very belated thing that we realised the need for such a symbol despite the booming economy which made us an icon on the international economic map.Let us congratulate Uday Kumar who authored it,RBY which okayed it & the GOI which approved for its adoption. who

Debut of Indian rupee Symbol
by tnsethumadhavan on Jul 20, 2010 07:25 AM

While I appreciate the author's sentiments about the lack of celebrated unveiling of the Rupee Symbol,I regret to point out that he did not get the point right. What has happened is that the Cabinet has given its approval to the Symbol. But it does not mean that it has already come into effect and that it can be put into use. The formal Notification by the Government giving effect to the Cabinet decision is yet to take place. Hence celebrations or formal launching by a clebrity at a function etc. are premature at this stage.

Crass?
by Maximus Meridius on Jul 20, 2010 07:22 AM

The Author should look up the meaning of crass in a dictionary. In short, it's over the top, lacking subtlety and taste. A downplayed release on a piece of paper is anything but crass. Crass would be what the author suggests Soni did while releasing this. It's just a stupid symbol, which is, for the most part unnecessary, since INR works perfectly fine. There's no need to waste taxpayer money on pomp and glamour over a trivial symbol. As far as the intellectual content of this article goes, it's next to nothing, other than an endorsement by the author. Every ancient culture, such as the greeks and romans have had money. The INR of Sher Shah Suri's time is not the same currency we have today. It's not a continuum, and other currencies have replaced it in between. It's only the name that continues, so I don't see how it's old. The current monetary system was largely established by the Raj in India (and hence in Pakistan). The RBI website has a history on India's coinage, and is a much more informative read than this man's opinions. As far as the importance of INR internationally, it's trade activity is less than the HK dollar, AUS and canadian dollar, even the mexican peso. It's hardly an internationally traded currency. Lets have some perspective here. It's nice to have a symbol that distinguishes the INR from other rupees, but it's not a world changing event, nor does it increase the INR's prestige as a currency for international exchange like the USD, GBP or

not demanded. Just coz a currency gets a symbol no one will kowtow before us. Time to concentrate on nation building rather than symbolic ego boosting exercises.

Sure Mr Baru, we can celebrate this by declaring a national holiday.. and probably mark the day on the calendar to have this declared as the national holiday every year... This time we can burst crackers, make tshirts with the symbol and distribute it all over India... distribute chocolates.... ALL TO SHOW RESPECT TOWARDS the NEW SYMBOL...!!
