defense expenditure
by muhammad rafiq on Feb 28, 2010 04:28 PM

South Asian nations need to realize the importance of human capital. They should invest heavily in their human resources rather than stockpiling deadly weapons and spending on defense. The current Indian budget portrays a very sorry picture of this with huge defense outlays on the back of millions of poor peoples living below the poverty line. Pakistan would also do the same on tit for tat basis though conditions are not very different here. Both the countries need to accept the principal of co-existence and respect each other's sphere of authority and try to take confidence building measures. Being region's bigger country, India has to take the lead and adopt policies that are not detrimental to the confidence building measures while others have to follow so that the region become one of the dynamic regions of the world, which I firmly believe have the potential to do so.

Bow to Masters

In this commotion, does indian bother to ask the gov't why the budge is presented at around 2:00pm? It used to be that the masters in London could take a look at it when the wake up (9:00am GMT). 60 years later, it's time they start presenting it first thing in the morning.

Shameful Interest Expenditure
by Riv on Feb 27, 2010 02:20 AM  | Hide replies

Interest expense is 19 p which is 19% of the budget?...shameful that still India is borrowing and getting our children and grand children to pay for our borrowings. This is irrespective of any political party. Actually if the govt checks corruption and wastage, atleast the extra cash flow can be used to finance new projects hence reduce borrowings which will help to reduce deficits and ultimately work towards Surplus. This is really shameful and nobody fights elections on reducing the borrowings or stopping interest payments. Instead people talk about silly things like Ram mandir and giving stuff for free...

To what effect? We have seen this cycle before.

Who has done anything about it?

This government will keep getting elected due to the votes it gets from unpatriotic and illegal foreign voters and will keep plundering India's exchequer as always!!

budget for the rich class only
by Arvind Gupta on Feb 26, 2010 07:44 PM  | Hide replies

Income tax slabs cut only for the persons whose taxable salary is more than Rs300,000/ pa, but what about the persons whose salary is below Rs.300,000/- pa who are the most sufferer by the high inflation. on the other hand there is increase in excise duty etc. fuelling inflation further. So it is basically a anti poor/middle class budget.

Arvind Gupta

You are right. The exemption limit start from 5.00 lacs instead of 1.60 lacs as inflation is too high.

So, this needs to be taken care of immediately.
