Impractical

this is an impractical option. Firstly carrying so much sand over such a distance is too expensive and not feasible unless Maldives want to go bankrupt before sinking, secondly its not like you dump sand and the sea is pushed back, it has to be renewed on a daily basis, once again expensive, and quite frankly maldivians should think about migrating to UAE than anywhere else

Theres a chance that earth may cool again and the Russians started coming down seeking shelter in India, there are already signs for that. :)
The extra Co2 out in the atmospher could block sun's rays and trigger a deep long ice age for centuries. God only knows.

i think you have mistaken carbon (soot) for carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a colour less gas, how can it block the sun rays (which means it has to reflect it, in which case it will appear black from bottom earth and white from elsewhere just like some clouds do). It might absorb some radiation, but inturn will heat up.

only the serious doubt is whether the global warming is fully man made or a is it a natural cycle or response (to which human addition is not minority though)

Bro, I think it is a man made fobia. The nature is behaving in its regular way. The rainfall and snowfall is breaking record everywhere in the world so how the gobal climate is affecting. The India does not have so much plantation even though we have so much rain in Maharashtra,
Gujrat, Delhi etc. How is this all happening. Scientists are failing at some part.

global climate is inter connected. global warming doesnt mean the temperature increases uniform it increases as an average. because of the increase in temperature glacial and polar ice melts, which affects the climate (by change in salinity of ocean, change in water temperature of ocean currents which has serious effect on rainfall and temperature).

rainfall alone is not the single criteria for forest formation, deccan traps where maharashtra is a major part is full of basaltic rocks, so dense trees cannot form. also a flooding season of 4 days is not what contributes to a tropical forest, average rainfalll is.

It will be our ignorance if we think global warming is a phobia. we are most surely responsible for it, but the question is by what part a large majority or simple majority. onus is on us to take care

With global warming, sea water level will increase and will eat shores of many countries. Maldiv is in the sea itself, as such, may be eaten by sea one day. It is a natural process, nothing to worry.

India

Why can't India step in and do something? This is such a great opportunity to forge regional ties -- so crucial for India's great-power dreams.

Like someone said earlier -- Thar has so much sand. There are so many Maldivians studying in India. Can't India consider shifting the Maldivian population into the Indian subcontinent?

From what I had heard a long time ago, A B Vajpayee was in Maldives discussing these issue when the Akshardham attacks occurred. The reason why he was negotiating such a deal was because the Chinese were looking to build underwater submarine bases in Maldives.

smart Maldives but poor Bangladesh
by mangesh desai on Dec 28, 2010 02:50 PM

Infact global warming will wipe out 50% of Bangladesh by 2100 which the Bangladeshi dont know as poor politician are worried about present condition than future. Maldives can get habitat anywhere in the world as only 3.9 lacs citizens they have offers from some european countries but its Bangladesh who will suffer the most if the dont do any concrete work on there land in the next 50 years.
Maldives people are smart and think for the next 50 years while bangladesh is not even aware of what will happen in the next 10 years.
if anyone reads the book "SIX degrees" (affects if the temp increases by 6 degrees to the world) it clearly mentions Bangladesh will be the worst affected country with 50% below sea.
Maldives will be wiped out but cost of finding a habitat for 3.9lacs people is easire and cheap.
