Baseless and wrong info

First, I would like to define the word hazardous - "an act or condition which is likely to result in harm or loss", commonly used to describe safety situations.

Now if you want to say which jobs are most hazardous, you would find out how many accidents and fatalities occur in a particular profession per 1000 or 10,00,000 workers working in that industry or profession.

Likely candidates in India are (not in order):
1. fishermen
2. drivers
3. Structural workers
4. Garbage collectors (you will not find any stats for them. most die due to diseases contacted while work).
5. Heavy industries (steel, etc.)
6. mining
7. powerline workers
8. security (police, military)
9. Construction workers
10. Marine/offshore.

Please consider the Software Engineers too in your list. With the wrong style of living for American/European companies, their health is getting degraded earlier and they are more vulnerable to heart attacks at the age of 30's.

THIS JOURNO DOESNT KNOW THE MEANING OF HAZARD!
by Kabeer on Dec 27, 2010 02:03 PM

This journo doesnt know the meaning of hazard.

None of them is a hazardous job except the ignorance of this journo.

The actual hazardous job is that of a diver who has to sustain high pressure and while coming up unless he takes enough precautions bubble will form in his blood stream and he will die; decompression has to be done very carefully.

Second is that of oil drillers. The driller sits on top of a rig and if anywrong calculation of pressure kilometers below will blow him into pieces and everybody around. This info can be wrong as situation changes from well to well.

Next is that of biowaste disposal workers
