many professoins ar filled with dangers. safety is compromised on a lot of issues.travelling in a car in India at night is one of the most hazardous deed . lorries are stopped on the highway without an indiacator.
None of these jobs, except travellig in a overcrowded compartment (which is not really a job) and taming the tiger, if using the right safety gear and right personal protective equipment..
Calling this method of cable installation (as shown in the picture) as hazardous is really stupid. This is a case of a job done stupidly. This kind of stupidity is only in India. Why cant the a**hole contractor dig a bigger hole and install a cable properly.. Must be saving money to make up for the bribe that was paid to the beauraucrat to get this contractor. Rediff editors should get their heads examined. Looks like the editors are carrying their ar*e in their heads.

not only the contractor but the people who awarded the contract are equally responsible and need an equally big kick up their back side. however very well brought out.wish we all could make that small difference on ground.
In India IIM graduate goes and sits in office of a company which is alive without his effort.Even if this IIM is not in the company still the company will reap profit. Simply this guys are paid. Less than 0.1% of companies started by these people. They only work for others.
in India who carry and dispose night soil (human excreta) for a living (world sanitation congress figure - 2008).
This vocation is one of the most hazardous in the world considering that they are highly prone to a host of degenerative and morbid diseases such as gastro-enteritis. The average life span of manual scavengers is estimated to be just 38 years !
Presence of such a high number of manual scavengers is no surprise as the UN sponsored body has estimated the percentage of Indians defecating in the open as nearly 70 crores (i.e., around 65 % of the Indian population) !
Why has this rediff report sought to exclude this 'vocation' from its list of most hazardous jobs ??
Perhaps because the information that India is the sole 'king and emperor' in the business of shitting in the open must be attempted to be hidden ?

Is handling 'sh*t' hazardous ? It can be disgusting but not hazardous to cause Gastro-ent unless one ingests it.

This is a report by the World Sanitation Congress. And that report says their average life expectancy in India is 38 years due to such diseases.

Incremental innovation is discouraged by Indian capitalists. "Maja nahi aata" or "Achcha Margin nahi hai". FUBAR.
