Related to Chennai - No 2 city in India.
by shankaran gurumoorthi on Dec 09, 2010 10:13 PM  | Hide replies

Thanks for the rediff survey. Really Chennai is a very good place for World Class education, Medical facility ( Apollo - Asia's largest health service provider, MIOT Hospitals, Frontier Life Line hospital, Madras Medical Mission, Sankara Nethralaya, Child Trust Hospital and so on. Further even though DMK government is corrupted they are doing lot of things related to Development of Chennai. Lot of Flyovers were constructed during DMK regime, particularly the Grade separatot at Guindy Kathipara, one of Asia's best Grade separator is in Chennai. Further Chennai Airport Expansion work is going on in full swing. IT Expressway (OMR) is one of the best road in India. Further Chennai is the first City in India having different mode of transport such as MTC Bus services ( nearly 3300 buses)connecting almost all nook and corner of Chennai, Suburban Train services connecting most of the areas of chennai, Madras Rapid Transit System - again another Train service connecting many of the important areas of Chennai. Further Metro Rail work is going in full swing. Further Chennai is the first City in India to have all births and Death details computerised. You can get any of your near and dear Birth Certificate and also the Death certificate form any location in the world. No city in India can beat Chennai related to safety for women. Further driving sense in Chennai is far better when compare to other Cities in India. I am working in Surat, It is very horrible to drive in Surat.

TN is one state that has a healthy distribution of all industries - IT, Hardware & Electronics manu, Auto, Agri..

Deputy CM Stalin is doing a great job in pulling lot of investments to in and around chennai..

Recently I went around Oragadam in south west of chennai.. Amazing to see the brimming industrial activity happening there. .. Apollo tyres will put any IT park to shame.. Planning to buy a land near that region.

Let me please ask -
1.What differentiates Chennai from other cities ? Does it not have corrupted souls ? Don't you have to pay bribe for each & every govt. work to be done ?

2.there have been so many scams recently by Chennai people, why do you think Chennai is special ?

I have visted many places in India but Chennai is just like any other city..same traffic situtation, overpopulation, badly behved crowds.

SO WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE ?
AND WHY R U SO PROUD OF "Madras Rapid Transit System" ?? YOU KNOW TRAINS IN JAPAN RUN WITH A SPEED OF 400 KMPH !
All your post is shouting "ASIA" "ASIA" "ASIA"...my dear friend,Asia is one of the most disturbed regions in the world. Why don't you compare with Germany,France ansd Australia ? coz you know you will lose hands down ? What's really great about Chennai & the country as a whole ? Rampant corruption and filthy people all around it just sucks to the core.

World's fastest growing Indian cities
by om shanti on Dec 09, 2010 10:07 PM

NEW DELHI: Economic growth in India is driving an unprecedented shift in population to urban centres. As many as 11 Indian cities figure among the 100 fastest growing cities in the world, with Faridabad featuring at the sixth spot.

These figures form part of the report, The Transition to a Predominantly Urban World and its Underpinnings, released on Monday by the International Institute for Environment and Development, a UK-based policy research non-governmental body.

According to it, even little-known Indian cities are growing at a scorching pace. For instance, Durg-Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, which is home to a massive steel plant, is the seventh fastest growing city in the world.

Expectedly, another NCR city, Ghaziabad, is in the list. But the other cities finding place in the top 100 list could surprise many — Aurangabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dhanbad, Surat, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam and Asansol. Obviously, the economic drivers at work in pushing populations to shift from the countryside to these cities are as diverse as the cities themselves.

Kerala will soon be fastest growing state

There is no competition for us regarding tourists.
They come all to Kerala and the best thing is, Madurai and Hampi aren't far away from us. Kerala o Kerala, god's own choice.

Guwahati is a major city in eastern India, with a population of 818,809 (2001 census). It is the largest city in the North-East Region of India. It is also considered as one of the largest cities of eastern India.

It is said to be the "Gateway" of the North-east Region. Dispur, the capital of the Indian state of Assam, is located within the city. Guwahati is one of the most rapidly growing cities in India; during the past few decades it has experienced expansion and also a steep rise in population.

According to a survey done by a UK media outlet, Guwahati is among the 100 fastest growing cities of the world, and is the 5th fastest growing among Indian cities..

Bombay
by Aviram Vijh on Dec 09, 2010 09:04 PM  | Hide replies

Feeding India for 60 years, still doesn't have decent infrastructure. The remaining cities must be thankful to it. Delhi B'lore etc. have emerged in the last decade. Before that there was only one city...and there still is only one. Nearly 1/5 of Indian GDP!! That is more than the GDP of Singapore, which goes to show that of Bombay was to be a state in itsself (independent country), we would be richer and better off than Singapore. But unfortunately we are the bullocks pulling India's cart..

You are half educated.Bombay has been able to produce that much GDP because of other cities and getting business, industrial products from other places.
Going by that logic New York is the business capital of the world, and still it does have good environment to live in,unlike Bombay which is congetsed.

Rediff is as usual it's best at the bottom
by surya das on Dec 09, 2010 08:28 PM  | Hide replies

What an awful list I ever read. As per your first page u are mentioning about "demand conditions, factor conditions, context for firm strategy and rivalry and supporting and related industries -- are instrumental in determining competitiveness for a particular region or country." If this is credential points then in what sense Varanasi, Kanpur, Dhanbad are in the list. I can bet on any given day Bhubaneswar (Temple city of India)much better place to live in compare to half of the names mentioned. A city which has achieved $1 bil mark export in software, a home of all most all big software firms as well as new IIT, AIIMS, XIM and many more top institutions. With regional office of many MNCs incl South Korean giant POSCO, with well planned city not in the list. It shows how badly can Rediff goes to the bottom. Good luck next time.
