Remeber the Bodo militanyt fiasco and pls note TATAS pay millions to ULFA and BODOs in Assam tokeep away disturbances from their tea gardens, isn't it tentamount to bribing? TATAs are no different from others maybe a little more corrupt since they always try to be the white sheep among blacks

First all organisation grow by bribing Politicians and beaurocrats and then once reached to the top, they talk about Honesty and Integrity.
I bet , just find out the salary income of all top echelon of company brass and their assests. One would find that their possessed assets are disproportionate to their source income level.
Does it not mean that these are corrupt people.
If corruption starts from top, how could one advocate honesty of employees at bottom level.
This is the real reason for system getting rot and dishonest employees reach to the top.
Employees of high integrity always branded job hoppers because they find the road tough in corporate world.
Bigger Banner companies means bigger corruption and high politics especially at top level. No private companies can operate in India if it is not run by corrupt people. Tata is no exception.Only Media has projected it to be good and fool people start saying that they trust TATA.
Their employees are as vulnerable to bribering system as you find in any other organisation.
Nepotism and Favourism is the striking feature of Tata Concern. Had this not been there, then you would not have seen all Bengalis and Tamils donning the head position in various departments.
Politics is at the max. height in Tata workculture.

Does Tatas have an alternative other than paying ULFA/BODO etc? Will they be able to fight or sustain their business only on the basis of hollow assurances from the Govt? Or should they just wind up and run away?

Here I totally disagree with you. Since I have some experience in working in those areas, I know how difficult it is to work there without paying them. This is the duty of our Govt to ensure a peaceful working environment. If our Govt fails to do that, we can not blame any organisation, who secures their employees & resources by paying some amount, even if it means strengthening the hands of the extremists.

targeted unduly
by CHINTAKUNTA KRISHNA on Dec 07, 2010 01:16 PM  | Hide replies

In my opinion Mr. Ratan Tata is being targeted on this issue. A man with impeccable character and ethics, ratan has set the highest standards of corporate governance both nationally and internationally. As the head of the tata group, he might be answerable, but pointing a finger at him is unwarranted. After leading the tata group for decades and taking it to its present status in the corporate sectoris is sad that he has to face this at the verge of his retirement. I am sure that he will emerge unscathed through this scam.

If what you say is true, then you should also answer, why a Ratan Tata should talk to some Nira Radia on phone at all. Ratan Tata is is the Chairman and if there is anything about corporate communications the same can be handled by 100 plus staff in Tata group. Why is it necessary for Ratan Tata to involve himself and if you heard the conversation, it was not looking great. Think about a Chairman of company of repute talking to some broker and look at the silly talks.

About the 15 crore bribe
by Sunny on Dec 07, 2010 01:12 PM  | Hide replies

Please understand, that in the past TATA could not have mentioned the bribe. If he did, the entire government machinery (and all the babus) would have got together to create a million hurdles for them at every stage. But in the new liberalized India, it is not so easy for the Babus. That's why Tata has revealed it. At least he has revealed it NOW! Why are the other businessmen still not revealing it?

Please let's appreciate TATA's stand. He is openly asked the PM to investigate the 2G scam and punish the guilty. What more do you need as proof that he is clean. Of course, one of his junior managers may have dirty hands in the scam(after all, Ratan Tata cannot micromanage every business of Tata's) but at least Ratan Tata is willing to have him exposed. The Tatas are the most ethical business group in India.

Please don't pass that much level comments on Tata Group, which is giving good image for India in all aspects. Don't you think in India it is very difficult to get things done from government sector? Ratan Tata in my opinion is good for even President Post. Even if he liberal to his corporate group when he is in power of coveted president post , he will the end benefit for uplifting of india as well as common man.
If you get more investments by Tata Group as a whole so many things will be good for India.

What is the qualification for the post of Indian President? Except she is a lady, what other ability the present president is having? In India anybody can become president if there is support from sufficient MPs. No other qualification is required except that he/she should be more than 35 years of age.

Tatas along with Ambanis are the spearhead of corruption in India.
Also not to forget the fact that Chinese despise Indians and especially parsis because of historical illegal activities of Tatas.

Beware of TTSL
by B Subramani on Dec 07, 2010 01:08 PM

I purchased (recommended by my office) TATA Photon on 4 Nov. They said that first 100Mb would be free if used before 72 hours. I used 100Mb on 7 Nov. To my shock I received my first bill on 5 Nov for Rs.20. The offer of free download is misleading. Earlier, in 2007 I had problem with their billing. I had discontinued their service and vowed never to use Tata Telesrvices. Beware of TTSL!
