Over hyped marketing could be double edged sword. It might bommerrang. For movie to run successfully a) good script b) Cast to fit the role c)controversy (to pull the initial crowd) d) Understanding the audience while marketing.
slumdog millionaire was based on a novel and actually they got very little from the book except the idea and some story lines. The producers gave the author of the book full credits on the SCREEN just for himself. 3 Idiots was based on a novel as well, but they gave the credits somewhere a single line passing along with many others. That's the difference between indian producers and Westerners. indians screw the writers left and right. its awfully shameful. If such a big name of 3 Idiots' Producers can do it with glee think of ordinary writers.
very interesting to know the producer's or distributor(RELIANCE)'s strategy of marketing. But many films made hits mainly by mouth to mouth publicity. And the script and screenplay and above all the story are backbones of superhit films. See "Hum Aapkehai koun" & "sankarabharanam" in telugu. Poor beginning first week and gradually raised collections and hit golden jubilees. So, mouth to mouth talk, good story & screenplay will facilitate a film's success. But the publicity and penetrating "B' & "C" class centres by actors' visits and online publicity, checking piracy at time of release are good strategies will definitely improve collections but not for a flop picture with poor story & screenply

i agree completely but screenplay did not work in the case of Ek_chalees_ki_last_local one of the best screenplay in a bollywood movie ever
Inspite of everything, it clicked bcos the movie was good, Lets see if yu can do a similar marketing for a movie like RGV ka Aag and make it a huge success. Moral of the story is marketing can only increase the value of a good movie
Whose money is it? All our common man's money is in the Producer's & Distributors' account now. A really stupid film and a stupid audience..they made a fool of us showing childbirth using vacuum cleaner!! and we believed it..

Let our film makers mmake money from their art. Nobody will offer an entertainment free of cost. This is a business and people are longing for better movies and if our Film makers can offer then we must congratulate them.

the idea behind this was to think for urself and not get graduation by just mugging up.if u follow the scene closely u will find hiw they reduced the power of the vacuum cleaner and other innocative ideas in a difficult situation.no great scientists or inventors were good at studies, including mr.bill gates, but it was innovative and different outlook which made them brilliant.

Please use your brains and stop being filmy..no doctor would prescribe using a vacuum cleaner to bring out a baby, but kareena does so in the movie..It is a completely illogical film and there is nothing u can take home from the movie except memories of Chatur.. The movie is completely filled by super overacting by Aamir and Madhavan. Both of them above 40, how can we think them to be 19 yr olds..

Whose fan r u boss? SRK's? Or r u from the South? Everybody knows that most Indian commercial movies (& even many so-called Hollywood blockbusters) contain many incidents & scenes that r realistically not possible. Still we go expecting 2 have a good time; that's the magic of the movies. If you r not interested then go and watch 'art' films, or films that they show in various Film Festivals. Simply avoid commercial movies. OK bud?

Please dont compare our bollywood movies with Hollywood. Movies should be mentally stimulating and should have a lasting effect on our minds..which is not there in the case of 3 Idiots. It is simply not an intelligent movie. Hollywood movies are also make believe like Avataar but the sheer hardwork n effort gone into making such a movie demands our appreciation. You can also take Troy, a war film, as an example. English movies take their audiences seriously and dont take us for a ride. They dont make us believe that a childbirth is possible by a vacuum cleaner sucking or that a paralysed man can get back to normal on hearing some silly jokes cracked by his friends.. Grow Up!!!and stop encouraging such mediocre stuff..
