Even if Mr. alam makes Rs 2 per rickshaw a month he pockets a cool 1.2Cr a year, not too many of his batchmates can boost of such earnings

Be a Lion Hearted!

Don't be hypocrite. If any one is doing something good for illiterate poor rural landless labourer who pulls rickshaw in off cultivation season in near by urban area or in small town or may be in city then what is harm. Why we stare at their philanthropic attitude. Don't allow negativity to ride in your thought it will harm you none other. If you have better idea then put forward instead of commenting like a looser. Any way, Alam has done nice job. And of course when there was none in the field of Beautician some thirty years ago in India then there was Sahnaz who single handedly hoisted the country flag at world scenario. Don’t be chicken hearted on the gender, caste and creed of the person. Be a Lion hearted and welcome them with open arms. My congratulation to Alam and Sahnaz.

One more creazy IIMer
by sachin on Apr 29, 2010 05:00 PM  | Hide replies

Yes Agree. We end up showcasing such things which sound like folklore and fables for westerners and we end up in pride. Someday the Municipal corporation will wake up and say pay tax on advertisement on rickshaws. Finance ministry will impose entertainment and service tax on rickshaws ,,,,then we need to catch this man for help again....full of jokers all around seem to be increasingly getting media and political attention these days

HEY AP, what ever that means do u think that running cars and trucks makes u great? Foolish with little knowledge how many years are u going to last with these cars and trucks? how much oil stock do u have go and do research on it first. I am not justifying that pulling a rickshaw is encouraged but either they do that or die of hunger they only have 2 options. At least they are not committing suicide, they are working hard and lets give them a chance innovate it with a small hybrid engine or motor which can help the puller to drive with lesser energy.
Start appreciating good what others have done and don’t just come out and criticize at least he has done that what have u or we done nothing but commented isn’t it? He was called to US u or me are not even called to our college or school.

BHARATIYA INDIAN
RIKSHAW PULLERS AT OBAMA SUMMIT
by BHARATIYA INDIAN on Apr 29, 2010 04:58 PM

Kudos to Alam for having the thoughts to upgrade the Rikshaw and to the establishment, for having the guts to send him to Obama summit.
Whatever other contributors here may say, Rikshaw pullers are NOT BEGGARS but are one of the most honest workers. They provide the most basic needs of transport in all the places in India – urban/ rural which the various governments in the last 60 years have miserably failed to provide. If there were enough buses and other modes of public transport, Rikshaws would not have survived. It takes a lot of courage and willpower to pull a rikshaw in all types of weather – heat, rain, cold and it is ‘Dignity of Labour’ personified. And to top it all, ten million rikshaw pullers did not get into allurements of being thieves or worse, beggars who are the worse parasites in our society.
Lets pray we have more people in India who think and do something about the ‘Bottom of the Pyramid’

Just being from IIM doesn't guarantee that some one is intelligent or smart. Its just a competitive exam. that all. This IIT/IIM hype are just created by media otherwise there are many intelligent people in India who are smarter & intelligent not belonging to IIT/IIM. Just don't give any damn importance to someone just beacuse he is from IIM. If his contribution is worthwhile, then only give importance.
