SANTOSH STEPHEN
Zain Operations in Africa
by SANTOSH STEPHEN on Oct 15, 2009 09:11 AM

Having lived and workled across Afirca in Countries where Zain had a network would like to highlight the following facts
1)Zain was known as Celtel and traces its beginning to Amsterdam from where it changed hands ,The company has undergone major rebranding exercises involving millions of dollars .
2)The company enjoys a good network set up(even has a tower inside the Masai Mara Game Park in Kenya) but also has the highest rates per minute which in some cases is almost double that of the competitor.
3)They have been able to survive for so long just because of the constant fund infusion from the investors who seem to have given up now with the recession hitting their bottom line as well.
4)The PSU's should be vary of such an investment as this is a cow which needs too much of feeding (all high flying execs)and big talk but will not meet the revenue generation expectations of MTNL and BSNL.

The P&L and Balance sheets have a lot of untold stories in them and do not necessary reflect the commerical viability of the projects though accuracy is much better than that in the Middle Eastern Countries.

The cash could be put to better use in india.

Raja, DMK and Farid Arifuddin - Crooks
by Rahul R on Oct 15, 2009 12:57 AM

Raja, DMK and Arifuddin are conspiring to loot the cash rich govt companies. Telecom minister Raja and his DMK masters are well known crooks. First they gave themselves (Swan Telecom) a telecom license cheap which was sold to Etisalat at a huge profit. Now they want the cash hoard of govt. owned telecom companies. God save India. Wont someone please go to the courts with a PIL to stop these crooks from bankrupting India for their personal greed?

What is his R&D
by Batao Na on Oct 14, 2009 03:12 PM  | Hide replies

Any patent numbers and countries where patents are filed ? Any published papers ? And contributions to Standardization bodies ?
Any interoperability tests with major networks?

This deal was rejected by senior committe as vivaasi has share capital of 0.5 carores , negative networth and reserves by land deals and buildings which were sold to another group company and now a complete U turn why exactly ?

Why no one is moving to supreme court to block this deal ? BSNL and MTNL are government owned thus thier money belong to public so not to be wasted in 13 billion deal

First & foremost, BSNL & MTNL have a huge Cash reserve..So, these politicians want to mint some of them.. & Farid will be the face of the deal.. Rest all is history.. Overall, congress clearly shows that they have international connections with Kuwait & other Muslim countires. They are making BSNL & MTNL into another loss making unit & later sell it to a private party.. Thats the deal..
