The present situation in Somalia is due to illiteracy, poverty, feudalism, religious, bigotry and external interferences. This is not a product educated people. You say India has a lot of educated people. Why there is no Somalia like situation in India? You now explore the answer. Thank you.

Great Idea! The next wave should be Education. India has potential to lead in Education sector.

Be careful from MAMATA, Bajarang Dal, Ram Sena. These people does not like such good plans. They do now want people to take more education.

Let us think global and act local. Of course, yours is a great suggestion. Mr. Anil must look into this aspect. Besides, exploring some thing unique to India (even if copying West is good) not bad. Anyway, it is up to him and his associates who are great academicians will definitely look into this aspects. Thank you.

A second thought
by mahendra raut on Mar 06, 2009 05:31 PM  | Hide replies

How ironical!! If someone donates for a noble cause, he is mis-represented as a swindler; if he does nothing then too he doesn’t get away without criticism. For a minute, let’s look back and visualise the dire conditions of poverty stricken areas like Lanjigarh & Jharsuguda 5 years before and the significant changes that we see now, its absolutely amazing. These areas which were once considered to be utterly backward shabby areas are now buzzing with bright minds doing phenomenal work making it a much better place to live in. This transition was also not easy which was faced with serious criticisms in the initial phase. Its my earnest request to one and all that before condemning any noble initiative for that matter which is taken up for the welfare of the mankind, let’s join hands in making this amazing concept turn into reality by doing our bit of it. There is no better country than India and no better people than Indians who are well known for their intellect, prudence & forethought. Just a minor change in our mindset and we are all sorted.

Faceless Indian
Re: Mob culture!
by Faceless Indian on Mar 06, 2009 05:34 PM
It is becoz of idiots and mypoic people like you that crooks like Anil Agarwal are able to loot this country. This University is suddenly being planned and tom tomed since Vedanta is under acute pressure for destroying the fragile ecological conditions in Orissa, forcing out helpless tribals and engaged in illegal mining and polluting the air by using substandard machinery. The officials have all been bribed and thats why they are quiet. However the international media came to know and raised a stinker. Suddenly Anil Agarwal remembered his love for Orissa and education came as a big savor. 6000 acres of prime land he's asked from the govt for the Univ. Awesome isnt' it ? 6000 acres of coastal land - the subsidised land valued is more than $ billion and he wants it free to set up the Univ - which will be an eyewash to cover up his illegal mining and exploitation in the region.

If you dont know the details, please find out. Don't behave like a dumb moron and abuse people from a region. Incidentally Warren Buffet has just announced a successor for his operations - Ajit Jain - he is from Orissa. And last month, the doctor who operated Dr. Manmohan Singh was also from orissa. Need more details about Oriya professional achievers ? Do a google search u scumbag jihadi pakistani dawg.

Mr. Ranganathan

Till today there is no definitive description of what development is. What development might be for some might bring about destruction others.
For the sake of building big cities & metros the interests of the rural people and the environment have been compromised. Understand that HUMANS are living on the EARTH because of the ENVIRONMENT we live in that provides air, water & food. So, for an economy to develop you need to have people living, if people have to live they need food to eat, water to drink and oxygen to breathe . Forgetting this if economic activities that threaten this environment is pursued without restrained, humans are destined to head the way of the dinosaurs

Sorry friend, you do not have correct information about what is happening in the ground. No land is taken on subsidy. All the landowners who have so far sold their land including government have been duly paid as per the local prevailing rate. There is no illegal mining. Already Supreme court has cleared this issue. That is different issue altogether. Do not mixed up these two. Why are you Faceless Indian? Do you have a vested interest? Thank you for the information that Mr. A.Jain is an Oriya. I am proud of him. Vedanta University is requested to note this name. Mr. Jain may be invited for an expert talk on Developed World Business environment when School of Business Study will open at VU.

Mr. Vimal, it seems that you know very well about the Sterlite Shareholders -lootscam of Mr. Anil Agarwal and you agree that it is ok to be a swindler and want people to agree to that , Because the system is such. It is very obvious that you are a paid employee of Sterlite / Vedanta and you have been deputed to answer / take care all such messages which bring out the truth in his intentions. I am sorry to say that this only affirms what I and many others are suspicious of. This practically shows how these sort of swindlers manage such big projects . How they multiply their money even while feigning philanthropy and flaunting their charitable nature. I repeat that now I am sure of this being a part of a $ 10 billion scheme and appeal to all Oriya bhais to noy blindly support this but use their own judgement and not listen to this VIMAL MOHPATRA who is a junior public relation officer in the abovementioned company and will do or say anything to anybody for his Rs. 12000/- monthly salary.

Anil Agarwal's university
by vijayant singh on Mar 06, 2009 05:24 PM

The idea to build a large university is great. My thoughts could not tell me though, that why does he nedd 6000 acres of land and that too in orissa where he has his mining business. I am not sure whether this is to facilitate acquisition of land which he might not easily get for other purpose.
I feel there must be a clause in his agreement with the Government that no part of the acquired land will ever be used for any purpose other than university. Secondly we must not displace people specially poor people for their land.
