TRIO, India's first tri-fuel car
by Virendra Singh on Jun 02, 2009 12:23 PM  | Hide replies

Add pedals too the car and start calling it four-fuel car.
What is the "innovation" here?

hey, what is this nonsense? This is not innovation

This is not even new - only that it is not viable. Must have done some jugad and called Rediff to get in the news. Now these guys will put on their resume and apply to Australia univs, and get thrashed and come back.

Nothing New or Challenging!!!

Rediff should think thrice before putting such articles here. “TRIO- India's first Tri-fuel car" this title would attract anybody. Going thru this article is total waste of time.
I am an Automobile Engineer by profession & working in Mahindra & Mahindra. Any Petrol Engine can run on LPG too. As ignition ratio of both fuels are near about same. Only you have to install a LPG kit in a Car that can handle LPG safely (readily available in the market). Some of us might be knowing that we already have a vehicle which runs on electricity it's name is Reva; launched in 2002. It's battery & controllers are also available in market.
So these smart engineering students bought LPG kit & electric car kit from market, assembled them in second hand Maruti Omni (which can be done in any roadside workshop with help of some fabrication work) & now claiming to have done miracle.
Non-technical people may get impressed by this news but it will not at all appeal hardcore technical guys & Govt. or any automobile company will also not show any interest.
If these students are reading my comments then I challenge them to develop a Trio- Fuel Car that will run on Petrol-Diesel-CNG. Because it’s something which we refer to as challenge in Engineering.

Appreciate your sensible and balanced reply. When I read tri-fuel, even I thought it is something at least close to Petrol-Ethanol-LPG, etc.

Hi,
You sound corrrect. I have a fiat palio 1.2 ELX. Its petrol car, but the fuel economy is not their. I was thinking to attached a good italian LPG kit. But i dont want to harm my car. My running on the car is twice a week. But i do have long distance travels like say around 400kms. I would accpet your suggestion as u sound technical strong. Please suggest me.Should u go for an LPG kit.

You are right on. Some lousy jugad job so they can say they are Henry Ford the tenth on the resume. Not one bit innovative.

This is like those dolts from the Northeast that make statues with hairpins to get in the Guiness book.

Good Innovation
by pankaj shirke on Jun 02, 2009 11:44 AM

Very well done.Congrats to the team
Government also must take initiatives to publish/promote the benifits of these cars to majority of Indian people
from last 15 years I am seeing that our young people does some innovation, but lack of publicity and interest from government, these innovations are wrapped up and these talented people are doing jobs abroad and settle there
Government must not waste their talent. They must be respected and retained in our country
Our country dont require fuel wasting cars from Hyundai/Honda/suzuki/GM/Fiat etc.
Hats off to the Trio

Dont be just engineer
by bhayya crusader on Jun 02, 2009 11:42 AM

I think these guys have doen an average job....

my suggestion dont be just engineer... be managineer (Engg Management) n look thinks in term of profitability... do they have any idea of cost involved in making all 3 option available in car?? any idea of maintaining all three fulel in car??

so teh best idea is to have max 2 fule with efficiant n cost effective n reliable....

so get ur sit belt tide n rethink again...we have emmanse capability... i will love to see someting coming out from IITs or prominent college like COEP ...

car by air
by dddelhi on Jun 02, 2009 11:36 AM

now one more car going to be launched very soon that will run purely on air.
Air will be compressed to run the car engine and the exaust air will be compressed again to fuel it.
Compressure will be run by again by the electricity which will be generated by this compressed air.. so in this way there, only one time we need to fill the air in the fuel tank to run the car life long.
