Water! Delhiites guzzle the most, face crisis
by hemant kumar bhura on Dec 25, 2009 12:01 PM  | Hide replies

Why just blame delhiites & label them as guzzlers. what about the leakages? DJB losses half of the supplies due to the old piping network, leakages & inffecient management.
DJB should be blamed & labeled.

dear Bhura,I appreciate your observations but I have seen that all over Delhi in a big no of hoses overhead water tanks overflow for hours. Rich people do not care for the wastage as they can pay for it as charges are minuscule in comparison to their wealth. Do you think really we think seriously about the problem until we individually start suffering ourselves?

Why are electric water-pumps not equipped with a float-switch that stops them when the tank is full, or (where the pump is not close to the tank and it would be difficult to run wires between them) a float-valve on the tank that stops the flow and a device on the pump that switches off when the water flow has been blocked for more than a few seconds?

Soniaji, and Rahulji and Priyankaji stay in Delhi and Delhiites have been very faithfully relecting the Congress for years. Never mind the post poll increases of transportation fares (of every mode), never mind that it takes much more to get nursery education than to get an admission into IIT, never mind that it remains the most polluted city and unsafe in the country, never mind the retrspective tax increases, the trio shall ensure that water continues to flow in Delhi- just continue to pray to them and vote for and support them!!!!

for the huge population of Delhi and the rest of India.

India's population should have never crossed 50 crores.

Yet nobody talks about exploding population.

You are absolutely correct Brother. I too have been screaming in these dicussion forums about population explosion. Until we stop producing kids like pigs.. we will definitely be doomed. Seriously.. I am confused if I should get married.. and add to the population. Also, besides adding up to the population.. just think about the sufferings the kid has to go through.. in this over crowded world.. filled with shortages n violence. This is already too late n even now if people do not act / react.. you are bound to face so many hardships in the coming days.

For the population problem, our honorable helath minister has a solution "please watch TV till late night". Which applies only to Hindus. So that down the year muslims can rule the country and ultimayely rule the world. Hozzaat???

Agree. Even these plastic buckets are used in TN/KA.

No connection between pictures and article.

rediff, please find people who know the subject rather than just churing out garbage.

How can somebody compare water consumption between Delhi and Paris, when both cities have different climate, infrastucture and life style.

Give water to India INC
by Abishek Reddy on Dec 23, 2009 04:38 PM

we need to privatise all the water and give it to India INC as soon as possible. Once Godrej and Mallya and Mittal enter this sector they will revolutionise the sector and give the benefits to the millions of Indians. We need to take bold moves if we want to become superpower soon and beat China in the face. We need someone like Rahul Ji to become PM soon. Jai Hind

Delhi: Water crises.
by shubhlata awasthi on Dec 23, 2009 03:16 PM

Have you checked the houses and consumers connection. Many of the consumers have stollen the connection and enjoying the water supplied from DJB. Say in Tughlakabad Extension. Many musclemen have installed their own submerssible water pumps and supplying to local residents illegally. Even people who have installed submerssible pumps on the pretext of Masjid or Mander are supplying water to locals in this area. There is lot of water theft. DJB persons comes and collect some money from these people and nothing is happening.. water comes after 3-4 days (no fixed time). In the nearby Jhuggi cluser of govindpuri they are having water for 3 times in a day (politicians must have vote bank there), but we are getting in 3-4 days for 40 Minutes...
