Even I faced a similar situation sitting here in US. I called up Macy's( a premium store) customer care to get some billing mistakes rectified. However, an Indian girl customer care rep with fake accent (so fake that even Americans realize that) answered and was quite unattentive. In the background I could hear girls laughing and chatting in hindi. The rep kept me holding for 5 minutes and got back to me and said "We can't help right now. Call Later" bang down goes the phone ! I would have complained to the store for their poor service, but resisted my self on the thought that afterall it might affect the Indian BPO company. These reps need to work seriously otherwise , the future for Indian BPO industry would not be bright anymore.

this is rubbish. Bad service needs to be taken care of. If you are so patriotic that you didnt complain because the BPO office is indian, then go back to india. US provides u so much but u dont want good service in the US.

i am a partner in crime bro, recently i tried to file my taxes with a company called IBSN.... their call center sucks big time. the moment they realized i am an indian, and the moment they realized i speak telugu, that dame started talking to me in telugu, which is fine to me as long as you get my work done, but keeping me on hold to have a giggle with your friends, keeping me on hold bcos you had to deal with another customer, telling me about your life story... asking me about why i am single. or why am for what i am... trying to know my life story... that sucks big time... i know i should have complained. but i didn't

This situation definitely require formal complaint. I had interacted with many call centers in india over period of years. Few of them are good and their service is comparable to UK based call centres. However, no a days they are recruiting crap people who does not know anything about service. Recently, some one from Carphone warehouse called me but call was definitely very annoying and I formlly complaint about it to them. I think there can not be any excecuse for bad service from any service provider. And being emotional about country is more damaging.

But my husband had a very positive experience with tech support in one of the microsoft products. The tech rep was with him on phone for 8 hours and solved the problem. They were extreamly polite and knowledgable.

I am an Indian living in UK. I had a problem with BT and I called the customer service that was located in Delhi. I must say that young fellow who answered my call spent 40 min and solved all the problems and was very professional. I was quite impressed!
In India, people dont know what is customer service. Maybe it is the way people deal or their bringing up, but they just dont know what it is all about. They all need a very good training otherwise we will lost out on all the outsourced jobs very soon, once the companies get cheaper and better customer serivce elsewhere.

wow i wonder what rur own credentials for putting up such a scathing comment here just like a wedgeheaded perfectionist
We have been evolved to accept poor service, expect poor service and provide poor service. This is visible in all aspects of life in India. We never took it as our responsibility to give our best in everything we do. Its not that we can not, but that we just don't want to. The reason being, when we raise the bar, everyone gets pressurised to give better, and this creates conflict of interest among workers. Thats when the crab mentality comes in to picture. We, instead of standing our grounds, giveaway to the social pressure of being equivalent.
If you see software industry, they started good with quality people, provided excellent results and thats why we could come so far in that area and become world leader in those services, but now even that is getting somewhat indianized and we can see the fall backs. We have been programmed to look for short cuts, whether they are right or wrong, this creates all the issue in our life.
- Instead of finding solution, we try to pass the buck on others - Instead of coming forward and taking charge, we point out what in-charge is doing wrong - Instead of performing our duties and then ask for proper reward, we settle for less because we don't want to give best
Life comes as full circle, when you don't give good service, you can't expect good service, which in turn with create bad services everywhere. Just mimickin western outfits, food habits and language will not change the basic nature of indians, we need change in our thinking.

why didn't you contest in the lok sabha elections...you could have become a national leader and eventually the (dummy, helpless, powerless) president of India one day...( will be better than the rubber stamp Mataji)

I like your last comment "when you don't give good service, you can't expect good service". Anyways I would say customer service all depends on organisation, i have two account one in ABN other in ICICI, calling ICICI is nightmare where calling ABN means your issue will be resolved in few minutes thats how it goes. I am sure no one bother much about accent if your issue get resolved in time. Cheers!
It is not only call centre employs give poor service but other service riented business are equally bad. Try any courier service, they promise to deliver your stuff the next day or the day after but very often it doesn't happen. The delivery boys think that they are doing a favour by deliverying your parcel. Try to book seats on Indian Railway through IRCTC and it takes ages to get connected and stil by half way through you will lose connection.
