we are indians and english is our mother tongue our forefathers were from great britain who left us in 1947 which gives us the moral right to copy , like and seek in our miserable lives whatever is western .american or british .. we feel so proud of ourselves when we get noticed in the western world .. whether the reason is good or bad ... thats why when danny boyle called us slumdogs it made us so excited that we placed him at the same spot as mahatma gandhi ( Father of the Nation ) and forgot the fact it was actually an insult and a slap on the nations face ... Indians are now called SLUMDOGS in america ...doesnt matter we got two oscars ... we are a nation of low self esteem

Slumdog = underdog from slum ... no one ever called Indians as slumdogs :D
Isn't the character in that movie is from Slum and isn't he underdog to win the competition as he has no proper education. (now don't tell me India don't have slums at all) ??
Refer to a scene where they addresses all Indians as Slumdogs or dogs ?? ... stop spreading false stuff.
BTW, go and watch Departed there is one solid line on Indians which is clearly targeted at Indians.
The truth for that matter is that Indians know how to sell product but do not understand the value of their customers. Hence we have this low quality after services. I would, however, like to stress on the so called "free market" concept in India. There is nothing like that. Our market is dominated by the Birlas, Tatas, Ambanis and the Ruais. It is the monopoly of these big business houses that have interest in every lucrative area. For example, we Indians know the quality of services we get when we become a mobile phone subscriber. If free market would have been at play we would have realized that the competition would have forced the mobile phone companies to improve their services. But this will never happen. TRAI had tried their level best to force upon themselves on these big companies. But they have been not successful. One example is that TRAI tried to bring in the rule that if you change your mobile phone company you do not need to change your number. But, sadly, till date this has never happened.
The company which cuts cost by hiring employees who are unskilled, and not spending money training them, will have to CLOSE SHOP. The individual who does not care about quality will lose his/her job.
I can understand where Beth is comming from. The call quality is really sad. Background nose is deafenning and one can hear people shouting screaming & laughing in their not so nice to hear local dialect. They might as well speak in their own local language.Companies will hire anyone above the age of 18,even if one is a criminal or a illitrate with no education background. All they want is numbers and the term customer service does not exist among the crude locals.
1. Our growing years: Go to a hotel and see how the waiter treats you. Try to climb in a bus and see what happens. So we don't realize what service actually is and hence our behavior.
2. Std 10th and Std 12th Practice 100 problems 100 times each day. Answer a familiar looking question paper. Get 100%. And then we think life is just like that. Given a problem that we have practiced we are great in solving it. If not then we cry out of syllabus.
3. Our think tank have made us support agents. Once a great nation thriving on innovation we have now become support agents. More than a billion people and we still look to the west for everything. Right from our language to the photos on the baby foods. Look at what you see.

Indians are lazy to INNOVATE and COMPETE HARD. They will do hard work, but they will NOT PERSEVERE to it to the NEXT LEVEL. They will get tired with meagre achievements and fizzle out.
This is because of LACK OF MARKET COMPETITION IN INDIA from the time of Independence. We PRACTICED THIS STUPID SOCIALISM and thought that GOVT IS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF US. We are LAZY to leave our destiny in the hands of the SO CALLED GOVT (who are these Govt people?, the same you and I). Why do you think that in our individual capacity we will leave it to the Govt employees to deliver, and when we become GOVT EMPLOYEE, we will START DELIVERING.
Govts don't work. WE NEED HARD MARKET COMPETITION (PRIVATE ENTERPRISE) to DELIVER BETTER.
I have dealt with Canadian and American customer service recently concerning some merchandise I bought and believe me the service was horrible with long waiting period and finally when I did get through, the customer service rep was putting me on hold four times to get answers. Finally she put me to some one else. In contrast I had a problem with my HP laptop and I called the customer service and ended up with some one in the Philippines and this guy was extremely patient with my questions and answered several questions and resolved my problem and even gave me some useful tips. I told him that he deserved a 9.5 out of 10 rating. He was so happy and thanked me for my comment.
Indians are very egoistic. When i mean indians it is 2% people who are concerned with this. Their English is rubbish. It is Indian version. It is not the way English should be spoken.Just like Hindi must be spoken in a particular way so is with English.Infact North indians make fool of south indians speaking Hindi even in films. But Indians feel they speak proper EnglishTo cover up they will say they have British Accent when they are in US or they will say they have canadian accent when in Australia etc etc.The fact is they dont acknowledge they are not speaking properly.Actually even US born indians dont like the way india speaks English. Indians want foreigners to say just good about india .As a result to get publicity foreigners nowadays just say some good things thereby getting publicity in useless sites like rediff, ibn, ndtv etc etc.eg Australian cricketer should just say india is the best and then they get coverage.Otherwise they are criticized.Just say Mumbai is the best ,india is the best just to fool indians.

I agree with Dighe. Having lived all my life in Mumbai, India with all egoistic Indians and now living in London with an egoistic international bunch of jerks, all people are egoistic.
But we should definitely try to bring India up, even though we get depressed living in it like me.

I feel you both Sameer and Sunil are fresh on boards. In sometime you'll get use to the life. I agree to some extent that finding a good friend is very difficult in these countries as everybody is here for a purpose - make $ and because of that they forget to establish good relations even with their fellow Indian.

Mr. Dighe This is not just about India and Indians. This is the mentality of Human being. Even Americans always wants to hear good about themselves. DO you even know how many grammatical mistakes an average American makes? But you will accept that mistakes and say Oh it's their language let them spoil it. Yes I agree Indians try to cover by saying they speak British English not because they want to cover up but because they want to feel confident about what they speak by associating themselves with English speaking country. I agree that ABCD also doesn't like our English but the fact is that all ABCD speak is confused English. some sort of crap which every pure American makes fun off. Indians don' speak wrong English but their accent is different from American and British . But what's the big deal. Australian and American accent is also different. In fact forget about accent of different conutries. My boss is from Texas and I live in NY. People in NY have sometimes hard time understanding his Texan accent. So think before bashing anybody.

Jimmy I am absolutely with you on that. Some people are so frustrated with life that they only think negative and never look at the positive side of any thing.Yes,we need to improve in almost everything, but that doesn't mean that we should only look at negative side of everything.Keep in mind one thing guys, we Indians can speak English but can these Brits or Americans know how to speak Hindi?? In fact, I can personally speak 5 different languages can the people of western countries speak even 2 languages? In India itself there are as many as 1,000's of different languages..Come on guys! It's high time we need to change our mentality ! look to improve but don't think negative..

Jimmy, well said mate. Also, those american morons are not outsourcing at the same prices. Further the moron recruiters like those who select for say, Dell select a complete non-IT person. Why? Because he can speak. And guess what he cannot even resolve questions like how to switch on a computer. Everyone wants to earn money the unethical way. Americans started it and Indians are following it. Does anyone even guess the amount of work that one does in a call centre. They work with only weekends (that too in week days). Agreed that you are getting paid in the end but why not treat with same advantages that americans get? As far as accent goes, I guess its always better to say "Visual Basic" than "Veeesual Baisic"... what americans are sowing should reap.

mr sameer dighe , u clown have u ever come across a person who want others to say bad things about his/her country everyone wants to hear good things abt their country comeon man whats wrong in it
a true patriotic person would always want to hear good things abt his motherland and even if he criticises his country for some reason it would always be constructive criticism
u unfortunately dont seem to fall in this category good luck anyway

Yes. agreed . We speak atrocious English. I sounds ugly. But French and spanish also have a strong accent but it sounds sweet and Westerners love it. We dont have to copy the accent but learn to pronounce the American way which is more logical. Learn to emphasise the right syllables(that is our problem) . For that English teachers should be able to speak it properly in schools.

There is no way as to how 'english should be spoke'
We are Indians, english is not our mother tongue. Sure we can't speak as well as the native speakers.
Why should we have this inferiority complex about this? Can can average American speak in his second language as much as we can speak and write english.
The biggest complain in most of my classes is when watching a video is that they couldn't understand the british accent in the video.

This is what we Indians are good at. Ever ready to jump on others mistakes. In fact we Indians should be really proud of ourselves. Almost 70% of people in India speak atleast 3 languages(English, Hindi and native lang), and we mastered English to better extent than any other Westerner. It's only the accent is different, slowly Indians are practicing that too. We dont have to be guilty to have a thick accent. Put our best efforts in the job we doing, that should be more than enough, dont worry about complaining customers. They always do. JAI HIND
