Worth corporate study is Shane Warne's leaderships skills
by SS Kumar on Jun 01, 2008 09:27 PM

While Ganguly & Dhoni's temporary forgetfulness is
not excusable, where DLF can really contribute to better management studies is to critically analyze Shane Warne's leadership skills and how he moulded
a team of average players in to a great team.

mediocre article
by arijit hajra on May 29, 2008 04:34 PM  | Hide replies

i can understand rediff has to fill in its columns with stuff picked up from anywhere, but what surprises me is that this article has been powered by Business Standard. Quality of this kind of write-up can be branded as trash (mediocre would be an understatement). The writer seems to suffer from selective amnesia & is thus targetting only a handful of captains. Instead of advocating for sending IPL skippers to management classes, he should be sent for some memory class & some common sense class so that next time onwards he can come up with something reasonable.
And BS and rediff - pls dont publish anything & everything. U guys are dragging your standard down with such writers & their articles.

What is mediocre about the article. It is just pointing out the goof ups of the captains in the press conference or on the camera interviews.

You need to know the names of your team members at the least. It's unimaginable for a CEO to forget the name of the person reporting to him or a manager to forget the name of the member in his group!!

Management lessons from IPL
by Ashok Sapre on May 29, 2008 02:43 PM  | Hide replies

You have forgotten to write about the most successful of the IPL captain Mr Shane Warne. He had a team of individuals who were interested in performing. Also Warne was never showing his anger about filding lapse or bad performance on his face during the play. Compare this with other captains notably Sachin and Saurav who could not hide their anger on the screen. The important lesson from IPL is that for successful combination one has to have performers and not talent houses who can put good personal performances but cannot get the best out of their men. The attitude and body langauge of Munaf Patel playing under Warne was much better than that of Munaf Patel playing under some of the Indian Captains.

Mr.Ashok,

I support yor views on Shane warne ,the guy has tremandous leadership qualit. But at the same time ,i havent seen sachin scolding players on the field. He is the coolest chap on the fileld.

Its another thing,he may not be the greatest of captains.

Well, I agree with this article, All including senior player or juniors they doesnt posess any leadership qualities. They play just for fun perhaps they are apid to paly.

I strongly believe that In india two important segment which doent understand the management and leadership are parliment and spots personnel.

They are known for all the nonsense, mismanagement and absalutely no leadership quality, My main concern is they even doent care for the self respect and dignity.

a leader is a leader anywhere be it sports, politics or whatever. we have sports leader, a politicccal leader. a leader is required to have leadership qualities anywhere at all times under any circumstances. isn't remembering your teammate's name a good quality???

The worst article possible on IPL
by pushkar verma on May 29, 2008 02:35 PM

Mr. Shayamal Majumdar,
One of the worst part of you article was the selective criticism of Captains. Why did not you criticise Sachin Tendulkar or Shane Warne?Sachin Tendulkar also criticised his team isnt he? I dont think there was anything wrong in admitting a mistake. Or when you drop a catch you became angry and shouts at the other person? Thing happen on the field and will continue to happen as this is the beauty of sport?
There are several other goof up too.

I think instead of IPL captains you should be sent to a common sense class as you lack it severly. Please dont write anything ?

Leadership in Crunch Situations
by alan Collaco on May 29, 2008 02:28 PM  | Hide replies

Leadership is also shown in crunch situations. Here Sachin has failed miserably losing all close fought matches. Pollock has shown better leadership skills.

Corporate lessons for owners not for captains
by prasad babu on May 29, 2008 02:24 PM

It was the year 1985 when India was two year old champs, Sunil was the captain.
Krish was on the deep, a day-night match that was.
krish dropped two catches,Sunil shouted at him, though kris signalled the lights blinded him.
Next over, batsman hits too high Krish comes running from deep and takes a catch near square-leg.Krish caught the ball and threw it again(to show his anger. Sunil went running to him and this time Krish started shouting(though jokingly)

Year 2007 Dhoni was keeping and Joginder bowling
someone comes from longoff(or longon) and tries to help joginder Dhoni signals to the fielder saying dont disturb him and let joginder deliver.
Over or so he sheds his keeping gloves and asks Dinesh to keep so that he can talk directly to the bowlers.

Both are cases of ASTUTE leadership.
probably now Dhoni leads a southern team, i see brothers abusing him.

Corporate lessons are for people who own rather than leaders(not cheer leaders) who actually have to take stress.
Remember, Rahul(Dravid) saying when a team wins you applaud for the captain otherwise you directly point your fingers on him.

People who OWN the team (real corporate) have said so low remarks and quoted making money or holidaying, rather they should be taught lessons
and not showing the door to CEO's.

Thought of reporting you, first. But what is the point. Better your posts should remain here as a proof of how a human being can stoop to a level lower than an animal. A racist without an iota of common sense, a narro wminded frog in the well, arrogant and extremely stupid. Your mother should hang heself for giving birth to a complete waste calling himself human. Shame on your parents, shame on your race, shame on your city, and sympothoes to all the people who need to interact wit you. Cry man, you are good for nothing - a complete total waste.

BTW, I am not tamil and this is just an objective analysis based on your post.

Tamils here, pelease show some composure and teach this low life why you are considered far superior.
