So what can we do?
by manickam paramasivan on May 06, 2008 01:30 PM

Instead of blaming everyone can we really go to the root of coruption and like ills that erodes the very basic ethics and all that is worthwhile all in the name of money making?
How corrupt politicians can survive if no one supports them?
We know all of them are corrupt but we choose among them for want of choice. If we can practice ethics in all walks of life without bothering about "then how can I go up" then most rot will be stemmed.

500 Billion dollor question
by murty on May 06, 2008 07:22 AM

With oil price going up every day the oil exporing companies and other gulf countries are being flooded with trillians of dollor of surplus hard currency in cash.Where does all this money go?Obiviosly they would like ivest in Emerging markets like India ,China and other economically strong Asian countries, and also the bric countries. This flow of foriegn money in the form of FDI and FFI cannot be resticted. Even if we are able to ,I feel it should not be done.Varios economic models can be used or new ones can be invented in order to utilise these funds Instead of restricting their flow. When money come it comes like floods , so as when when it goes.Lets arrest the out flow and device methods for better utilisation towards devolopment.

No pain, no gain

A comparison with China is meaningful, at least as far as how they did it? What a paradox to see dyed in the wool communists attracting all the world capital for years & having them eating out of their hands. Even the Tibet issue will an aberration, soon to be put behind in the euphoria that is soon to follow for the Olympics. None will dare upset the dragon. Even Carrefour with multiple outlets in China bent over backwards to put out the fires! CNN is doing it, not to upset the apple cart.

Whenever comparisons are made, we are made out to be an elephant or tortoise. One jerky step forward and stalling, catching breath. We are always in self-doubt about any positive action and inaction is generally accepted. Our leftists have nothing now in common with the heady Chinese who put out marvels daily to outdo their eartlier ones. They gave the comfort levels to the investors, whereas we have no national consensus. Early 1990's, our bigwigs made an aggressive effort to attract investments in infrastructure in Hongkong. One banker made a pertinent query "Overseas Chinese are investing bigtime in China, why don't overseas Indians follow suit? Maybe, you know something which you don't want to share with us".

Instead of finding scapegoats and holier than thou attitudes, make the turf as attractive as possible. Let us put petty politics aside and have a go in true Olympic spirit. Not easy to achieve without some sacrifices.

Easier said than done!

guys...now its not a qn of marathi/ non marathi
lets look at delhi.
taxpayers are always welcome, but what about migrats who turn up build slums and burden the infrastructure of the city.
would u like migrats pouring up and builing a slum outside your house.

i am not saying raj thakrey is correct, in india all people can move whereever they want, but that also does not mean building slums whereever u go

both are incorrect.

peopel from up and bihar working in industries/whereever and paying taxes are not being targeted there, its only the hawkers and slum guys who are 'humar tumar' aava baitha sort of...
