how risky is India
by venkateswarlu yelama on Dec 09, 2008 01:26 PM

1. In India the risk is high because the politicians eat away all revenues. for instance rs 14/- a litre petrol was sold at retail Rs 55/- that means rs 41 is the difference. so 75% going into the pockets of politicians, burocrates & government officials. just direct & indirect taxes are so high in India. that is the main reason for inflation. hence economic unrest will continue.
2. Hotel tariffs are so high. 20 years ago the room tariff is Rs 750/- was selling at rs 30000/- that means what inflation.
3. due to urbanization, people flocking from villages and crime rate un controlable, no roads, no water, no sewage systems, no housing
for many towns.
4. police are used as house maid servants for the politicians, but not peoples rescue.
5. every where corruption, without bribe no work in India, including loans from nationalised banks.
6. Armed forces were not looked after well
7. laundered money going overseas & comming as investments from politicians, hence real money how much gone very difficult to guage.
8. FII's investments mostly chanalised funds only, real multinational companies will not dare enough to come to India due to bad Infrastructure. for instance GMR have used rs 200 crores for hyderabd airport, but looted 5000 crores. to site cases are inumerable. a politician who started a career without rail ticket journey to delhi to give slogans, today havong thousands of crores. The risk for common Indian citizen is so high.
9. P Chidambaram fo

Resilient India...
by Ashutosh Kumar on Dec 09, 2008 07:45 AM  | Hide replies

i guess foreign firms do not come to india to "invest", they go there to "make money". till money is an important issue for companies around the world, they will HAVE to invest in india. the fact that most of the foreign investments in india (and mumbai) happened after 1993 (as the writers said in the article "1993, when 13 bomb blasts in one day killed 257 in Mumbai, just over 29,000 people have died in terrorist attacks") proves that point. the fact that indian democracy is resilient with so such diversity will carry her over these difficult times.
The views of the editors of the article are very stifled. the world needs india as much as india needs the world!!

Any country in this world is risky. There is no way to avoid it than committing suicide. Brave men will not run away from risk. They will face it and fight it out. Only the brave will survive.

pseudo Paki terrorists

Its just amazing, what a bunch of Indians will write when they are in the dole of foreign employers. Do they speak in the same condescending terms about Communist China, dictatorial South America, where a foreigner can be mugged in broad daylight, in corruption ridden Russia, crime ridden South Africa, or even suburban US, where gangs of drug peddlers and are killing Indian students, besides robbing houses and cars?
Problems abound everywhere. And yes, the US too could have lost all its sheen, had a nuclear war erupted in the Bay of Pigs fiasco in the 1960s. Please also note how a Russian ship recently crossed the Panama Canal to set shop in a former US base. Does this make the US a more dangerous place now?
And just finally... All these MNCs are not doing India any favour by investing here. Over the last five years, India has been amongst the highest yielding stock markets in the World. At the same time European and Us markets were yielding negative returns. Secondly, a country of 1.1 billion people is a huge market, which any sensible 'global' company would be foolish to ignore.
The case in point is the English cricket team agreeing to tour India soon after the terror attacks. The reason, there are billions at stake in the cricketing extravaganza called the IPL.

Absolutely right. Every place feels as dangerous and safe in today's world..I cant believe some of the articles, such as this one written here.I mean really if you look at today's news itself one sees immediately , there are weak spots every single place today. Greek are in riots, Thai in a coup ( every other year), 9/11 suspects are finally being 'made' to plead to guilty and french muslim graves are being attacked. This is just of today. India has its own particular issues, espacially corruption and population , which makes security an extremely difficult issue to resolve.
Can we really resolve or even moderate these two issues first ?

Post Nov 26,

Ahah! This is my goldmine! I will now hark back to days of 5years witing list for a scooter and naked childern running around in circles and watch my acceptance in lecture circuits grow....
