Pay Commission
by ASHOK GANJOO on Aug 16, 2008 11:54 AM  | Hide replies

I believe that the Govt. employees should also be paid at par with the private sector. This will improve the quality of work at govt. offices besides reducing the level of corruption. At the same time very strict laws/punishment should be implemented against the corrupt employees. Corruption in India is like a menace and the same should be eradicated for a better environment.

Ashok, stop fooling people and day dreaming. Even if their salaries are increased 1000 times, they will still not work and continue to demand bribes as usual. It is because they are in a seat where the others are not.

Besides, do not compare salaries of Pvt and Govt. Govt employees enjoy lot of undeserved perks which those of the Pvt sector do not. We have to shell out money for everything.

By the way, one sample of reasons why the 'sarkari babus' should not be paid is:

In every city, real estate constructions take place in violation of laws with the active connivance of the Govt departments and its employees. 'Politician-Realtor-Sarkari babu' Nexus.

When the builder is illegally constructing extra floors in violation of the approved plan, nobody stops him. Later, after the apartments have been occupied, Govt demands that owners (not builders) pay up extra money for 'Building Regularisation'.

Also, if you see the 'Real Estate' sector in A.P, Govt is increasing market rate of land every 6 months. Why? To meet pre-determined revenue targets, not because the value can be justified. Also, government is auctioning thousands of acres of govt land....and doing what with that money? distributing the moolah among politicians and sarkari babus.

By the way, be prepared for 20% inflation. After all, we haven't yet matched our neighbours records in rate of inflation.

Pay without accountability
by Ganesh Saraswat on Aug 16, 2008 11:48 AM

It cannot be denied that many sections of Government employees deserve better pay. However, if this is not linked to accountability, it is gind to lead to another disister....
(1) Today, more than 80% Autorickshaws in Mumbai ply without any lights.
(2) More than 50% Taxis in Mumbai DO NOT HAVE lights (only holes in body).
(3) Every week round the corner of your street, you see new encroachment.
(4) Corruption in Police department is at its worst. You cannot get even passportclearance without PAYMENTS.
(5) Potholes on the roads are repaired ONLY on paper.
Is this hike going to change any of this?
Carrot and Stick strategy is always recommended in PRIVATE sector. Now that Goverment has doled out carrot (paid from OUR pockets), is someone going to wield stick?

Work will be done only after receiving some unofficial amount, i.e. through mediator or under table.
