by gurpreet talwar on Aug 14, 2008 12:34 AM  | Hide replies

IT IS TIME TO RETHINK WE NEED TO PAY MORE TO THE DEFENCE FORCES AND ALSO REDUCE WASTEFUL EXPENDITURE ON THE ARMY , DRDO ETC, THE INTERNAL ISSUES SHOULD BE HANDLED BY POLICE AND PARA MILITARY FORCES AND NOT THE ARMY. WE NEED TO HAVE POLITICAL SOLUTIONS FAST

just fortnight/month back, rediff reported that the pay commission report is being delayed which no other website or news channels/papers reported. now rediff news that tomoro is the day of acceptance of the proposal.
it appears that the previous news article was to pressurise the govt to take action.

We Will Continue to Improve
by voyager on Aug 13, 2008 11:52 PM  | Hide replies

I am a senior Govt Servant and I think we are improving slowly in the services we offer to the citizens. There is a lot of scope to improve further particularly in terms of weeding out corruption and realising that we are "servants" to the citizen and not there to lord over them.
I have a substantial force working under me in our department and I assure each one of you to continue our efforts to imrpvoe regardless of the award of the pay commission.
I have had the option to manage (steal) lacs of rupees if I want to, but I still drive an 8 year old Maruti 800 and my children go to a normal school. Some may say I am stupid, but I'll say I am proud. All of us are not bad - its just that the corrupt grab headlines while the honest ones just carry on doing what they must.
The constant pressure by the citizenry is a good thing. I urge you all to continue to keep it up so that the change is sustained and the bad eggs weeded out.
Wish you all a Happy Independence Day tomorow!

I know sir, I respect people like you. Only Few are left of your kind.. And a Happy Independence Day to you as well. Both my dad and sister are in government sectors. One is in state and other is in central and both of them don't take bribes as its like selling yourself to someone and next time they come and ask we have to bow to their demands.

I agree...it is only the corrupt ones who hog the headlines....and the majority are not corrupt...and it is up to the individual to decide how he turns...the right or the wrong way...and of course, the root of all these problems starts with tghe political classes. Many of you here deride the bureaucracy. But honestly, have you thought about how many times a corrupt or criminal person is elected as your representative? And what have you done to see that the parties nominate a person with a clean record? Adn how many of you have had the courage to refuse to pay a bribe to get your things done speedily? Or how many time have you tried to see of some "connection" could help you speed up things and jump the queue?

Merely laying the blame for the ills of the country at the feet of the bureaucracy is escapism. The Civil services and the armed forces still provide the frame for the working of this country..albeit it may no longer be pure steel...there may be elements of corrsion...but imagine...without it, our country would have been in a far worse position.

Hi Voyager,

Good Show. I served in Govt department for over 24 years and have taken VRS recently to take on the system. My assurance to the citizens of this country that majoriry of govt servants are honest but people who matter most manage themselves at key positions and dont move without bribes.

Citizens must push the state machinery out out inertia and demand performance. We will improove. have faith in you. we will change the system but you got to push the system for change.
Long live republic

NO ACCOUNTABILITY
by nishu kutty on Aug 13, 2008 11:34 PM  | Hide replies

The government employees are to going to get this hike without any accountability except in the production sector. The other useless government sector services like Banks, transport, Education etc will continue to enjoy the Benefits without any significant contribution to the Economy nor the country.
The services and other useless sectors owned by the government and running in losses should be privatised immediately.Later on other sector may also be phased out except for some strategic sectors.

If you believe what the Great Chanakya had said long back "If the soldier at the border starts worrying about his family rather than the country; it is the end of the country' Hope the Govt does justice to the armed forces
