Very bold article!
by Siva N on Apr 15, 2008 12:43 PM  | Hide replies

Great article from Venkatesh. Yes, this money belongs to Indian people and needs to be brought back one way or the other. As a massive German tax evasion scandal is applying pressure on Swiss banks to cooperate, let us see whether that creates opportunities for India too to pry open and get some information on stashed wealth. But who will represent Indian side, will RTI act will help or NGOs have to do this job?

Regards,
Siva

Corruption at the highest level
by pasupathy mahadevan on Apr 15, 2008 12:34 PM

What the author has pointed out is absolutely correct.I am sure from India alone nearly a trillion dollars would be lying in secret accounts in swiss banks. And the names of many politicians and busness magnates are there in the list.So in total our public money is looted and kept in secret bank accounts with the assistance of western countries >this has been in operation for more than ninty years since the industrial revolution. Its time that political donations stopped and unaccounted money brought in to the national banks. How to eradicate corruption at all levels, that should be the main agenda for the electorates in the ensuing elections.Right now what we are witnessing In Andhra pradesh is something unbelievable....massive corruption at the doors of the rulers...money is going in sacs not accounted for.IN the name of development they are making a mockery of things. One central minister who was sacked recently, in fact was telling that people want development and they dont mind about corruption.BY being a minister he had done enough damage to the mother earth and his contracting company has ammassed massive wealth and many contracts have been grabbed by this pseudo worshipper of shiva.
Politicians are the bane of this country since independence and congress party has to share the major blame.Since this party believes that poor should remain poor for ever. Its time we the electorate teach these political bandicoots a fitting lesson and we need a real Ramarajyam. The process

No Indian politician worth his salt, will survive
by Ranajit Bhattacharyya on Apr 15, 2008 12:22 PM

No Indian politician worth his salt, will survive. Most bureaucrats will have to be sacked. In the good old days the slush money was said to be for party funds / election funds. Trustworthy politicians were known to have hold on to such money on behalf of the party. Now of course this is a free for all. You join politics or bureaucracy, perhaps judiciary could be added, to loot the country.

Mr. Venkatesh seems to have over looked the huge ammount of prime Real Estate held by seemingly unknown, obscure Indians in various parts of the world, particularly London, Geneva and now Dubai.

We need to do....

as general public can at best brood over it in these forums and make fund off those jokes on swissbank accts and our netas. As author suggested the will should be on part of the ruling party to take the cudgels against these blackmen... Some of the measures can be taken interim to restrict such activities in future.

-Receiving party funds during elections should be made formal and public like in US (hypocrasy kills!)
-Netas should detail their earnings on such terms complying FEMA or other acts, while filing their nominations
-Similarly while the term of the govt is over, they should submit latest wealth details
-Bureaucats and policiticans should furnish the relevance for their abroad visits
-Business intelligence agency should be formed for tracking to restric white collar crimes and tax evation (already there!)
-Lastly we need to scrap the constitution which is not to our benefit for 60yrs and come up with relevant / more realistic one

Two grave problems that this Govt.is criminally ignoring are
1.POPULATION-This Govt. says that population is actually A BIG MARKET for different products.Silly ideas.
2.CORRUPTION-When pointed out once Indira Gandhi said that this is a global phenomenon.
How can CONGRESS solve the country's problems.

Well M R Venkatesh I think you never read Rediff message boards. You should read them before writing such good articles. This is an uncivilized country. People are driven by hate and there is no motivation that can make them do anything other than hate. Istead of thinking that something good will happen try to get residency of a developed country. Remember there is only one life and to spend it all in a place like India would be a pity.
