DON'T PAMPER THEM TOOOOOOOOOOO MUCHHHHHHHHHH
by James on Sep 26, 2007 11:42 AM  | Hide replies

Hi

Team getting $ 2 million, Yuvraj Singh getting 1 crore. BCCI is rich and they can pay.
But don't pamper these players.

They are still young team with lot of energy. Let BCCI put in rules for endorsement, this will enable the indian team to be consistent and not JUST MAKE MONEY AND NOT PLAY.

why should BCCI dictate rules to the players out side of Cricket? Its business for every one. Almost everything is commerce these days..The fathers' day, Mothers' day, Valentine's day,Ganesh chathruthi,Diwali etc etc. There's a billion doller business revolving around each.Cricket is another business. Intelligent people just watch it for the game and forget it.Fools keep harping over it for days together. Cricket is like a movie; U watch it for entertainment. The moment the show is over, its normalcy again.Except for filmi magazines (which again is a business deal) who create sensation around stars, no one keeps talking about them or keep watching the same movie every day (there may still be a few lunatics who would even do that - watch the same film 20-30 times!); So, if the cricketers endorse for Rs.25Lacs per company,is there any complusion for us to buy that company's offerings? and, if he doesn't play well and India loses a match, how does it affect your and my day to day life? after all, these players are elected and selected by all of us. BCCI is not a Govt. body either. In a country where the citizens dont have the right to select their own first citizen, the President of the country, how does it matter who plays a game or who doesn't? Just watch the game, enjoy the moments away from your normal routine and forget it and move on, dude!

While all of India is celeberating India's win & raining all sorts of prizes MODI is discriminating against Pathan brothers as he has not announced any prize for them, politicians are politicians but this Modi is very dirty & narrow minded.

All the state govt are to be blamed for dividing india on state basis. Basicaly we are all indians first and we should remember that we are indian last as well . States are made , just to organize the governence of the India in a better way. States are not meant to divide india on sentimental lines. If at all the prizes are to be givern then states should give prizes to all the players of the indian team.

What hppens to all the states and centaral govt. when players win in other sports , they just forget them.

I also dont understand why the Govt should give special awards for winning a tourney..Its yet another game and rather rich game with lot of money flowing in for the players anyway. If some politician wants to give a "gift" to any player, let him give it from his vallet (which again is our money,in a way!), why throw away the tax payers' money? There are so many projects that need money and so many people who are in abject poverty.. If this is a norm, let the government give me also Rs.5 Lacs for achieving my annual targets then!;-) ;-)

I think i saw in the news gujarat govt announcing Rs. 5 Lacs for Pathan brothers.. Better check facts before accusing.. Though Modi deserves to be accused for much serious crime than this.. but then Rajiv Gandhi and so many got away for the same crime modi committed.. Forget it man as far as people like modi are concerned god call him what ever you want is there to punish

Over-Hyping!
by sri sri on Sep 26, 2007 11:37 AM  | Hide replies

I personally don't care for advertisements or endorsements.I dont buy a product or service based on who is endorsing it, but what is the use of it for me and at what price.I guess sensible people always do so. These endorsements are for fanatics and kids who just indulge (may be with their papa's fortunes) for the sake of it.More over, cricket is a game, just like any other.India won, allright. It was a thrilling game, fine. There ends the matter and its life as usual. One need not "glorify" someone for hitting six sixes in an over and things like that.If BCCI wants to pay Rs.1Crore to Yuvi, let them They have the money. BCCI is the richest borad in thw world.and, its business for them at the cost of sports loving people of India. Why cant these deals be kept under wraps? why should they be publicised?I dont announce my Bonus or performance pay to all and sundry in the world!Yes, I am happy for the rewards for my hardwork and there ends the matter.why hype everything? We are not yet the United States where everything gets publicised. If we imagine ourselves to be there, then let's accept everything that is western, why dont we? Its such a farce and portals and media hype everything to prolong the "glory" till the gloom strikes and vice versa! Take it easy guys! and just have fun in life..

Cricketers make maximum money. Next time if you fail to win the same people who praise you now will be in the frontrun to pelt stones against you. Don't believe all thse felicitations and boosting stories. iNSTEAD BELIEVE ONLY IN THE MONEY U EARN while your time is in its peack.

Common Indian Problem
by mohit bhutani on Sep 26, 2007 11:29 AM

Having won the world cup, the indian cricket team has got the licence to exploit their achivement. There is no harm is earning money, its absolutely vital. but y the ad compaign thing would be overlooked this time around.. at this point in time the indian cricket team is basking in the sunlight of victory. and if they loose even 2 matches after doing the ad campaign. all thap crap associated with ad campaign probs with schdule will going to resurface. HYPROCRITES .both media and board. rules pertaining to num of ads campaign shud not change victory or no victory.
ppl who queue up for the stars are a**es. i saw the interview of Dhoni's father, he was not thrilled after the indian team's heroics because of the fact that the same ppl burnt effigies of his son infront of his eys. irfan patch was stripped off all the ad campaign contracts in the last 6 months.

Nothing wrong in it
by Kaustubh Prasad on Sep 26, 2007 11:15 AM

Well, we don't live in a Utopian society. Relatively simple theories of supply and demand determine most actions and decisions. Companies don't pay sportspersons for charity. They do it because they want to earn more profit. This doesn't just happen in India. In fact, Indian sportspersons are paid nothing compared to their American counterparts.

We can't grudge them the money they make. Popular sports, such as cricket in India, attract more money. The same way, soccer players in England make more money than cricketers. Football (American football) players in the US make more money than their soccer players. There are several reasons for the popularity of a sport, and usually it tends to be a cycle, where you have more money being pumped into a sport BECAUSE it is popular, helping it make even more popular, or at least sustaining its popularity.
