Inflation raising its ugly head - Misleading Statestics.
by Rahul Singh on Sep 17, 2007 06:17 PM

As for Inflation is concerned the Govt. Statestics are misleading as they are calculating on whole sale index. But the prices of basic comodities like vegetables, pulses, food grains and Medicines have increased by many folds. It is different aspect that this inflation is not pinching the Higher/ Middle class as their incomes have kept pace with the increased cost of living. The value of money has gone down and purchasing power has gone up specially from IT/ BPO/ CALL CENTERS where an average employees earnings are nothing less than 10,000 - 15,000 per-month.

Inflation

This is a better situation as the inflation rate is below 4.0. and the Union Finance Ministry is doing good by merely concentrating on Inflation now a days.

The Petrol charges remained steady for a long time is better noted.

Inflation

It is down but my expenes keep mounting. What a way to hoodwink common man. This business of rate of inflation going up or down is nothing but a sheer exercise in fooling us. Media is very fond of conducting surveys. Why don't they carry out a survey in India to find out how inflation has reduced the cost of living.

dear Aditya

there is always a misunderstanding of wording of inflation.

if inflation goes down, it does not mean that prices have gone down. it is the rate of prices going up. so, higher inflation means prices are going up faster and lower inflation means prices are going up slower, but in both the cases, prices are going up,not down.

that's why, yours and mine expenses keep mounting.

manupulating inflation
by Bhanushali on Sep 17, 2007 10:29 AM  | Hide replies

Inflation figures released by government are manupulated to a great extent in order to take political advantage. Actual inflation is much more than what is projected and presented by various agencies

Government figures represent Inflation through Wholesale price Index but actually we need to calculate Consumer Price Index. Consumer Price Index reprents the actual amount paid.

Here again, the index is decided by a basket of goods which may not be same for everyone.
