largest number of poor lives in India

India is home to the largest number of billionaires in Asia, according to Forbes. Only four countries %u2014 Turkey, Russia, Germany and the US %u2014 have more billionaires. 2007 is a landmark year because the population of millionaires in India crossed the one-lakh mark. Strong economic growth and a robust performance in the stock markets are responsible for the number of high net worth individuals, with net assets of at least $1 million to increase by 20.5 per cent to 1,00,015, reads the World Wealth Report released by Merrill Lynch and Capgemini.
On August 9, the National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector released the Report on Conditions of Work and Promotion of Livelihoods in the Unorganised Sector. The 376-page document said that 836 million Indians, or 77 per cent of India%u2019s population, earn less than Rs 20 per day. They are the officially-designated "poor and vulnerable segment of the Indian population".
Their number is equal to the combined populations of the US, Indonesia, Brazil and Russia. They can barely afford the minimum calorific intake. About 79 per cent of unorganised workers, 88 per cent of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, 80 per cent of the Other Backward Classes and 84 per cent of the Muslims belong to this category of the poor and vulnerable. The much acclaimed and feted economic growth of India seems to have left them untouched.BJP and Congress must answer these question instead of blaming left.

No. 1 danger is something else...

People in India never go to the root of problem. Just superficial analysis. No wonder India is still far behind. No. 1 danger is people are not educated on simple economics and how business helps creat jobs, income for every one. How a successful run business, even small shop, helps building a highway, park, and best foorpath, bus, train.
Fundamental issue here is to be aware of individual role as consumer. Majority of indian needs world class training so that they are aware of how they can play role effieciently, than to just pay attention to intellectual anlysis done by media. Only an inteeligent society aware of what pushes economic growth higher can help. Otherwise politicians, and media will keep providing u entertainment in the name of economic growth...

Exactly; well said, Manoj. It's all in the hands of people; unless there is a change in our people's attitude, way of thinking, way of behaviour, willingness to learn good things frother other country, India could face hell of problems inthe future. Another thing, lack of depth in the knowledge while learning in the school/college/univ also need to be addressed. For the past 20 years, college become place of entertainment; instead of studing well to understand the subjects and score good marks, people/young generations are waiting for 'quota/reservation' for them to get admitted in college/univ which is very poor attitude. Literacy is not growing among the people. People learn to be more integrated instead of talking 'my state', they need to talk "it's our country"; politicians are dividing the people and people are blindly / emotionally following these stupid politicans instead of thinking wisely for the development of country and their welfare. Honesty and Humanity is fastly vanishing from our people which is big worry for the people who think about nation. Standard/Quality of the politicians are based on the standard/quality of the people who selected them. So, blaming politicians for all the crisis means we need to blame ourselves for this. Can our people learn and change ourselves in all those above grey areas? GOD save India !!!

6 key dangers to Indian economy

The quality of education, graduates & engineers we are producing. Barring those from premier Institutes, others do not know fundamentals of subjects they studied and cannot express themselves, in spite of having more than 70% marks. Everybody is interested in a software job; no engineer is available to work in manufacturing & maintenance. Multitude of Engg colleges, Management Institutes and corporate degree colleges adopt all types of means to get the students passed in the means.
In summary, the number of quality graduates are highly inadequate for the type of growth we are targeting. Going forward, Our technical and qualitative competitiveness is highly doubtful & uncertain, which will directly slow down our growth engine and export earnings.
