are nowadays more informed, they dont fall for silly ads unless the product is good. The ad is funny for sure but that does'nt tell me anything about the product.

Stop PR plugs

thought it would be an informed article on a new launch. instead i find a glib pr plug. It is just not on. just because they will spend a few bucks on your website, it does not mean you will sell your editorial soul.

Dear Moo, what i had written in the first place was an explanation of what is wrong with this kind of journalism. You obviously did not understand it.
and dude you chose to get personal with 'LOL- YOu!!' right?

LOL was for the philosophical "sell your editorial soul", anyways..still why is it a problem? Your explanation does not give "what is wrong with this kind of journalism" !

Media get paid to advertise. Not sure what you work for, but all of us do pay to get some of the biz news or some better coverage to a product. That's a reality that's going on for many years.

Dear bro -- I am sure it feels great to be a cynic, I know it does. How happy could you get to feel that someone has a peanut brain ! Never mind..you are one of those who chose to get personal, I will leave it there.

''Is it like Advetorial in print media''??
by mukul george on May 01, 2007 12:43 PM  | Hide replies

Having seen this article , i feel i was going thru an advetorial page of a newspaper...whre media get paid for the space given..needless to say "any bulshit can be written".For some solace comein to rediff..but u let me down..But i wud recommend this article to b published in your business page so tat business aspirants aor business grad's can learn from it..like "How a brand is built"....

If the product is a hit, this can be a good case-study too. Regular media can have business articles.
It's as if you know how media have to function, which articles have to go where !!
It makes interesting study for non-business aspirants too.

the only point i was trg to make it....it seems like a product promotion...noting wrong in this article and not sceptical abt the worthiness of it...but only concern being " shd it have been carried in the firt page...an wudnt a bsn coumn hve beeen more appropriate"?

Et tu, Rediff ??
by Ashutosh Phadke on May 01, 2007 12:05 PM  | Hide replies

Such blatant PR plugging was expected only from Times of India / Bennett Coleman. Now, Rediff has fallen for it, too. Et tu, Rediff? Rediff is now officially off my 'favourites' list. Less said of ITC, the better. Try as it might, it can never change its identity from being a 'smoky' cigarette company. Much like a gangster turning politician by doing 'social service'!! Let ITC give up its cigarette business and then compete in the market. Remember, consumers, that the Bingo you are eating should really have a statutory warning saying - 'this packet of Bingo is paid for by the wasted lungs of a billion smokers' !!

ITC is making a conscious move to diversify. It is also engaged in rural upliftment initiatives like the e-choupal (won the best business model award and is now a case study at Harvard). And Bingo Ad campaign is such a refreshing novelty. Cynics like you can never grasp such things.

If the toys are good, sure!

ITC has different divisions, one is of food!
How does it matter?

Pepsi drink may be junk, but if they have another health drink that is good, surely I'd buy.

For the information of all those guys in rediff:

I have been with rediff for last 4 years reading almost all articles they show here. But off late rediff's standards have come down to that of a PR agency. Posting advertisements other plugs under news column is cheap trick and you are trying to fool all of us readers.

I guess I should leave rediff and never come back. Rediff sucks.

I do agree with u. Its not the only rediff doing such things, whole of the media is involved in marketing now a days. This is become the part of life. We have to live with this.

You could leave (I doubt if you will).
It's about how ITC is marketing its product. If you see the ads, they are well made.

You can always chose to buy or not buy. Media always have the right to publish these kind of articles.

If you had read the same article in ET or Business Line... you say it is Corporate gyaan... if it is in Rediff, it is called a PR trick.. Kudos to Rediff for putting varied news coverage.. much better than the TV news channels where the focus is only on movies and cricket
