More importantly, Cochin is currently the only airport capable of handling the AIRBUS 380. The airport is owned by Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), a public company, initially held by a large number of Non-resident Indians (Indian citizens who live outside India), major Indian corporations as well as a 13% holding by the government of Kerala. This is the first international airport in India to be built with only a minority (13%) Central Government stake in a public-private partnership (PPP) project. The total government stake, state and central, is thus ONLY 26%...and that is the MAIN reason why it is REALLY GOOD!!.

The airport was built on a 1300-acre plot surrounded by a lush green landscape, and had India's second longest runway (3400 metres). Its parking space could accommodate some 1,500 cars. Its domestic terminal had 100,000 square feet of built-in area and the international terminal occupied 140,000 square feet.

Common Malayalee.......Its always a known fact that only a malayalee would support the cochin airport. Plss.......be practical & open minded. Cochin airport is one of the least favored among local as well as international airports....that is why u have less traffic.

Cochin international airport

Cochin intl. airport is a cut among the rest in the country in that it is built in the traditional lines of its locality and is modern..The only problem is that it is at the southern tip of india and most indians won't get to have a look at it...
The surroundings, the beautiful landscape and the road to Cochin city from the airport is a sight to behold..In the times to come, it will further develop into a major world class airport for sure..

Another malayalee supporting Kerala's cause. I don't know when u malayalee's will ever change and think India as one single country rather than just supporting Cochin and Kerala. We all know that Cochin's airport is one of the least favoured among local as well as International travellers. I am talking because I have visited Cochin airport just a couple of months ago

Dear...
first have a look at the site of CIAL - http://www.cochin-airport.com

Cochin International Airport is the first green field airport in private sector in India, planned and constructed from scratch and capable of expansion on a modular basis. Around 1500 acres of land was acquired for the airport and the airport has been constructed with facilities matching International Standards.

Cochin is strategically located in the international air map. Three major international air routes intersect near Cochin. The 3400 meter long runway of Cochin Airport is capable of handling any type of aircraft including the most modern JUMBO AIRBUS 380. There are two separate centrally air-conditioned terminals for domestic and international operations measuring a total area of around 4.5 lakh sq.ft. the integrated cargo complex at the airport is capable of handling perishable/non perishable and dangerous cargo.
The airport company has at its disposal, around 400 acres of land in prime location for commercial deployment.

CIAL has the 4th largest International traffic in India. Almost 75% of all foreign tourists arrive here.

This guy here says that Cochin airport is the least favoured!!!

Unneessary voting conducted and no improvemnts in the structure and facilites in all airports in india..
Pls dont insult the word airport by using it for INDIAN airdrome...
rather lets change the title as which among the vacant land in india is best for landing flights..this wud be a bit precise..

The new hyderabad airport coming up at Shamshabad is reputed to be the best. Even after the multi billion renovation, the Mumbai and Delhi ones will be inferior to it.

It opens early 2008.

I have been to many airports across within India and abroad. None of the airport in India has international standard but comparitively I found Cochin to be well managed. 2006 stats also shows that it is no 4 in india as far as international traffic is concerned and still well maintained.

mumbai airport --international to domestic change is hopeless
by common on Mar 28, 2007 02:31 PM

umbai is definetly not.....the torture a passenger has to face while landing at the international one and then shifting back to domestic....my god we have to run around all the places with the luggage and then to face the money the airport bus staff ask during loading of baggages to domestic ones....mumbai admin has to take serious steps in arranging these facilities....long way to go...
