by omkar bhave on Jun 06, 2006 03:27 AM

Politicians are so immature in terms of the economical impacts that they do not understand that india will loose it's international invester.

Now reservation should be abolished in all sense except on economic grounds.

Whats Next ?
by V on Jun 06, 2006 03:23 AM

Whats Next ?
Reservations in private sector
Reservations for US visas in the US embassy
Lower cut-offs in GRE/GMAT/SAT ?
The indian politicians never cease to amaze me with their innovative ways to corner the lower caste votebank.
Why only 50% ?, please increase the reservations to 100% and allow the creamy layer of Indian academia to leave India.
I am advocating everyone I know in India to leave India, for the betterment of their future generations.

How bad the reservation system can get?
by K on Jun 06, 2006 02:46 AM

A close friend of mine belongs to Scheduled caste. We both did our MBA from one of the universities in AP. While I got state 6th rank in MBA-CET to get into the university, she got a rank in thousands. That is OK as long as she belongs to a poor family. But guess what. I used to commute everyday by bus while she used to come by car. And a year later her brother got into MBBS in one of the government medical colleges. Story does not end here. After finishing his graduation, he did not get seat in P.G. course. So his parents paid 45 lakhs to buy him a seat. I am not distorting any of the information here as this friend of mine is still my best friend and continues to be. But I hate the fact that how the reservation system is getting misused. I think SCs, STs and everybody else who are demanding more & more reservations should first fight against undeserving rich people in their own castes. If they can do that, they don't need to fight for more reservations as the current quota is more than enough.

Reservation Policy
by Raghavan on Jun 06, 2006 02:44 AM

The Policy of reservation is not Really meant to benefit or uplift the lower caste people. It is meant to create a second class citizens by brainwashing them to believe that they are inferior beings andcan not at any time be equakl to the othere castes and that it is th ePolitical party / parties concerned who worked for securing a fixed and permanent place and share in the Educational Institutions and appointments despite their dificiencies . The Policy also creates a permanent i9mpression in the mind set of the people that people belonging to certain classes / casteas are inferior and people belonging to certain castes are far superior to the so -called BCs and set these two groups one against the other from childhood to the end of their lives. The [people belonging to the BCs who are convinced that they are inferior and can not thrive except on the alms of reservation doled out by the Political bosses will be forming a solid and fixed Vote Bank for the political bosses beloging to the lower castes . Merit is totally ignored for te sole reason, THAT THE POLITICIANS DO NOT WANT THESE CASTES TO AQUIRE MERIT AT ANY TIME AS IT WILL GO AGINST THE POLITICIANS CERTAINLY

Reservation
by Gopal on Jun 06, 2006 02:36 AM

I am complete in favour of Reservation for POOR, reservation should not be on CAST sytem. to remove CAST bring Strict Discrimination LAW into the country. India can never become Developed Nation if this attitude is maintained by Congress. Congress could'nt do any thing good for INDIAN poor people in last 50 years.

All articles of Rediff on Reservation were biased including this one
by Parminder on Jun 06, 2006 02:15 AM

Certainly, media esp. Rediff is totally biased in case of
Reservation Issue. Infact bakward status and economic
status are very much linked, if you do a study 95% of te poor
people of India belong to SC/ST/OBC category. Also to get
an OBC certificate there is a condition of proving the poor
economic status. No OBC with income more than 1 lac per
annum can get a OBC certificate. So, its very fair to give
reservation to such poor people to uplift them and also if
someone with better coaching classes in big cities makes it
to the medical field it does not mean that he has superb
brain better than an OBC candidate who studied in a village
with scarce resources. Congress has just tried to give
chance to backward class students to join the mainstream
high profile system which is so far totally dominated by
General category people living in cities. OBC's make more
than 75% of population in many states but have got very few
(5-10%) jobs in medical and management field.

satya
preposterous statement
by satya on Jun 05, 2006 10:34 PM

"the system allowed educated Brahmin priests to wield enormous power over kingdoms won by warriors and made wealthy by merchants. They exploited the rest of the uneducated populace, consigning them to the underclass by virtue of their birth. Intermarriage and even socializing between the various castes was forbidden"

not all brahmins are rich there are lot poorer people. exploition are done those people who upper caste non-brahmins, don't shift blame on brahmins
of course socializing is forbidden but this too challenged by holy person like basaveshwara, ramanuja and adisankara

Reservation policy-Amoral, illegitimate political stand
by pradip on Jun 05, 2006 10:05 PM

Reservation should be totally stopped. Allowing further reservation & and for many more years - is clearly breaking or amending basic structure of indian constitution. Supreme court should set aside the constitutional amendment as illegal, & unconstitutional.
Further reservation will harm society. All SC.ST.BC,OBC Mps should use their own funds given by govt. for upliftment of fellow brothers & sisters. Arjun singh, Meera Kumar, Kamalnath & all such MPs should vacate their office of MP for some common man from OBC from their constituency. Presidnet, Ministers should take medical treatment from such OBC doctors only, before imposing them on indian citizens.
