'Pepsi, Coke contain pesticides'
by san on Aug 06, 2003 04:38 PM

i feel gov should , revive existing laws and make it more strict to prevent these kind of ugly happenings.
These companies like pepsi and coke are very particular abt the quality of their products in other countries like US and UK , becaz of their effective laws.

NO second thinking, Ban it!
by indian on Aug 06, 2003 04:25 PM

Hello Fellow Indians,

There is no second thinking. Indians, this is the time to wake up. We are paying for disease.

Take the Oath of drinking "TENDER COCONUT" and support our villagers instead of foreign companies which induce diseases.

Reg. Economy, they are pumping only a few millions into the Indian Economy but in return taking back abroad in BILLIONS!!!.

Indian.

I wouldnt want to be in these multi national copany's shoes
by Puneet Nanda on Aug 06, 2003 04:23 PM  | Hide replies

I really pity them.. giants they may be but circumstances here are just too weird fr them..

If they use the (supposedly) safe drinking water available through civic connections, they are accused of using up the same fr profit and hence not leaving enough for the poor of the nation.

If they use ground water, they face charges of using contaminated water... technology all they may use to filter out the pesticides... they cant filter out the moolah hungry babus who keep bringin up such issues to ensure regular supply of non-contaminated moolah fr them selves..

wonder when was last these babus conducted a similar study on the quality of water running in our taps.. I'm sure they don't have no pesticides... they dont need to.. even the stench of the water is enough to drive away all those pests

So your point is....The water is impure and hence so no harm in having pesticides as well, right?

Abominable..This shows the wickedness of our Govt.
by Kishore Kumar K on Aug 06, 2003 04:20 PM

Why are these companies maintaining norms in making soft drinks in US , why not here....
Though there is no significant difference in price that they sell it over India or US

This shows their respect to Our Govt System...and bureaucracy

this is gonna backfire
by C.Rajesh on Aug 06, 2003 04:18 PM

I think this is only going to backfire on the indian govt. Since it is commonly found in ALL those softdrinks there could be possibly only one source... WATER !!
The water they use in bottling plants could be the reason for this. Either this is provided by the local municipality or this is ground water... In both cases it is a shame on us for corrupting the water so much... In other words, these chemicals could be found in many potable waters used by people. But I am not sure if the lab tested these or even if they tested they released their test reports. Ofcourse, I am not supporting the softdrink companies. But we should also check for the ground water contamination in all the places. So even if you dont die drinking coke, you will die drinking water infected by pesticides!

Meaningless Effort by the NGO
by Sanjeev Rana on Aug 06, 2003 03:56 PM

The NGO that has tested these brands has done these tests without any discussion with their legal advisors, it seems. Although, they have definitely made their point to the world they have left themselves open to the Cola giants mercy (legally). Their work to me seems to be futile since once the cola giants wrap the NGO up, they are going to extensively market their product to bring back whatever losses this article may have induced upon them.

Why we should blame these companies
by Roshan on Aug 06, 2003 03:53 PM  | Hide replies

I dont deny the CSE report. Government must do something about this and investigate further and if found guilty action should be taken.

The regulators authority has no stardards in place for soft drinks. There should be strigent norms for any food product. This includes municiple water we drink everyday. Who knows, you might find more pestisides and unhyginic substance in the water we drink. It is also possible that water supplied to these companies contains more of these substances. So, why blame the companies.

If one says drinking these soft drinks will harm one's health is wrong. Entire America drinks these soft drinks like water and thier life expentency is more than ours.

It is just a failure of our regulatory system and nothing else.

Dear Roshan

I totally object your statement of comparing the Indian life with American life. Not of hurting but the fact. Please go thru the article thoroughly.

CSE chief Sunita Narain said
"Coca Cola and PepsiCo brands sold in the United States were also tested and found not to contain pesticides"

Everywhere the Life has some meaning and Value. Please do consider the statement "Prevention is better than Cure"

A Bungalow owner may get infected but not the road walkers in the same locality. Can you comment on this.

Please bear in mind that we are all Indian and we should be unity to curb evil causes.

We should not encourage any outsiders to show their discrimination in quality.

Let this same companies supply the same products with the international standards. I am noway against globalisation but for the discriminating intruders.
