earlier in hyderabad the autos plied with rates as per the meter reading. after botsa satyanarayana a congress man was made the transport minister these meters were removed and the auto wallahs started demanding extra rates. the same condition prevails even today in hyderabad with a new local party heading the newly formed state of telangana. and the same rule prevails in andhra pradesh. the public gets looted. the govt does nothing.
Last year I had chance to visit Sikkim, I had to travel from Kolkota to Sealdah for changeover. To my surprise, I found prepaid taxi service as 'Excellent'. There was only one policeman on duty, all passengers as well as taxis were in queue. Driver simply drove the vehicle to its destination without uttering a single word. The position in Mumbai and Delhi is totally opposite.
We cannot blame the auto-drivers for the exorbitant charges being asked by them. Since the government is responsible for the frequent fuel price rise.
How can an auto-driver meet the expenses recurred to him after paying the owner the rent ;can we do that as we boost. Think over for a practical solution which may satisfy all at-least to a certain limit

In Pune your destination is decided by the auto driver. Hence Uber is a much sought after option. Case in example - From my place to Airport is 98/- by Ubergo. Same distance by prepaid auto 210/- I rest my case.
One will find score of Autos parked outside station in no parking with connivance of police authorities and bulk of them are owned by police personal only. Anytime during the day for a trip varying from 6 to 9 Kms they demand fare from Rs. 200 to Rs. 275/- whereas the meter will be less than half if it. In Hyderabad we call the auto drivers dacoits.
If this trend continunes Auto's may become extint in Coimbatore and even in Tamilnadu. Even after many Call Taxis in use with better fare, the Auto's use to charge and cheat the public, especially the outstation passengers by charging high fare.
With just 1 hour distane from Coimbatore is the Palkkad ( Kerala ) who were charging a nominal auto fare and Auto has been a part of genral public there.
It's the responsibility of the Govenrment and the local administration to take stern action on this.
As a Coimbatorian I sincerely regret for this business man annoy.
The problem with Uber and OLA is that they don't have "Reason" scroll for Cancellation. Moreover they charge you 50 for cancellation which they collect during your next booking. Sometimes the driver does not come or does not want to come and there is no indication in the app.
