Cousin brother n sister.
by udayshanker araga on Feb 17, 2019 08:00 PM

In India the words cousin brother and cousin sister are used to differentiate between parallel cousins who are your father"s brother's or mother's sister's children, and cross cousins who are your father's sister's or mother's brother's children. Parallel cousins are considered siblings whereas cross cousins are not. In south India it a common practice to marry your cross cousin. Hence the need to differentiate between the two.

Rubber is used as an another term for an Eraser in the UK and many other countries among white people, too. Less frequently, though.

Picture is used as an alternative to a movie, a film, etc. in the US and many other countries.
Where do you think pictures in Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, etc. come from?
Picture is just a short version of the term Motion Picture, that's about it.

It would have come from Tamil usage 'Patam' for a cinema, or 'Chitram' of Malayalam, meaning 'photograph' or 'picture'. Yes, Motion Picture is the right usage - British or American!

'Picture' comes from 'Motion Picture', which is an American expression, not an Indian one.
