Exploiting

In the month of December 2014 my son developed high fever. NO malaria, no dengue but low platelet count. In 15 days he was admitted three times. Every time chest X-Ray. Every day routine blood test. Blood was sent for culture test. Each injection costing Rs.750 and daily such 4 injections. Abdominal sonography. Finally they told us to go for CT scan. I put my foot down. Gave him Ayurvedic tablet Samshamani Vati 8 tablets every six hours while he was in the hospital without the knowledge of the doctor. The fever stopped next day. I kept him for two more days as a safety and brought him home. Ended with paying 75K for 15 days hospitalization.

Hospital Horror
by RAJESH LOKHANDE on Jan 31, 2015 09:23 PM

I think its insurance companies responsibility to pay or not to pay to hospitals, for treatment if not required. Payment issue is between insurance company and hospital, certainly its no where concerns with person admitted at hospital, if it is cashless. Who rejected cashless claim in case of monali Gaikwad is not clear, Hospital or Insurance company?

Dr.Dikshit... our family doctor
by taijwant ramdeva on Jan 31, 2015 12:59 PM

Dr. Dikshit, our family doctor, will never prescribe a test unless it is absolutely necessary. I have rarely seen a doctor who physically examines a patient thoroughly, but our doctor does. Most doctors i have been to quickly listen to what you have to say and take no time in prescribing a number of tests, based on which they prescribe medicines. I can understand there are a large number of doctors in the country who are honest to their profession and patients. Let their numbers grow.
you may contact Dr.Dikshit, who practices in Vikaspuri, New Delhi, if you need an honest opinion about a medical condition/and or treatment. His number is 9810209528.
I have shifted to Noida (some 50 kms. away), but still prefer to visit him.

What good will it serve if you don't publish the name of hospital and the doctor ?
Useless journalism.

Tough time for the old timers (Doctors)
by SR Hari on Jan 29, 2015 03:44 PM

Our family Doctor (still we have a family Doctor in Chennai) is 70 and had been consulting from home. Doesn\'t believe in suggesting various tests and all that. Due to renovation of his house, he started consulting in a hospital that had come up around the same time. This is where his (the Doctor\'s) headache began.

The Hospital wanted him to charge more than 5 times what he used to take as fee. He had his own set of patients consulting him for many years.

With this twist in his own profession, most of his patients stopped consulting him. He says that though he isn\'t worried about the revenue, he is more worried about the general condition of the patients (few of them visit him in case of urgency in the condition).

The hospital wants him to prescribe all sorts of tests as mentioned by some readers in their hospital stories above.

Poor man, he is going through stress to keep up his ethics.

Health care has become a big business. Doctors today decide based on reports only - no logic, no experience. That is the sad state of affairs.

There are few good doctors around. We should be lucky enough to be treated by such people.
