About primary and vocational education in village schools
by Jagdish Dubey on Sep 22, 2014 01:57 PM

Education in our rural schools isn't much be it in terms of the quality of teachers or the infrastructure or actual teaching. There is very little learning in most of these schools. MDM may have increased enrollment and to some extent attendance. But the curriculum, the reading material, and school infra - even black board is missing so also tables and benches. Most schools don't have toilets - few separate for girls. Little wonder they don't attend classes. Rather than spending billions on building infrastructure in 6 lakh villages, build internet and telecasting infrastructure for much less. Don't leave curriculum and course material to state or local authorities rife with corruption. Enrollment and attendance don't actually add up to learning. Hence world standard lucid teaching material should be developed for the country as a whole and then translated in all languages and even major dialects. language or dialect should be no barrier to learning.
So far as vocational training is concerned it is all about tool, material, machines, equipment and gadgets. The manufacturers themselves develop instruction about the use and repairs of the same. They should put it down on internet and dvds etc. and assist vocational schools in educating students about the same.

Accessibility of education
by Subramaniam narayan on Sep 22, 2014 01:35 PM

Most of the points are well-made. Particularly, Business houses getting involved.
One more direction is educated people getting involved to lift up the under-privileged.
Technical education should be devoid of the all encompassing influence of the politicians, and every 4-5 years the syllabus should be revised.
Our Universities, e.g. Bombay University are too big for for managing by a team, they should be broken up, since their size gives rise to inefficiency.
Govt. should get convinced that educated people in the right sense are needed to build the Nation.

Article too theorotical
by Vishal Sureshraav Mantri on Sep 22, 2014 11:10 AM

I apologize to say, this article does not cater to the heading. It only provides the theorotical benefits of education. It's easy to speak of appointing commissions, Doesn't lay down specific points. No focus on distance education. It looks like a typical speech of a political leader.

Think out of the box
by Jagdish Dubey on Sep 22, 2014 10:13 AM

Things have changed and are changing faster with the advent of internet. Leverage it for education in order to educate all and raise the standard global. 1. provide tv and internet in all households - obviously free to all those ho van't afford them otherwise.
2. Develop reading material centrally for all classes all subjects and all chapters and translate the same in all major dialects of the country. The material should be made easy to understand even for mediocre students.
3. Run classes on tv and internet both i) as per schedule and ii) streaming videos on demand.
4. Class rooms may be used to explain and elaborate further on the tv/ internet class but attending classes need not be compulsory particularly for the girls and women.
5. All quizzes and tests should be conducted online.
6. All teens up to age 18 should be attending these classes and taking tests rather than looking for work
8. Higher education should be open on to those above 18 and qualifying based on their online scores.
9. Technical/vocational education must be compulsory for all those not scoring above the threshold on streams like science, maths, humanities, commerce at the 10 std. online tests.
10. Vocational/ technical education must be linked to employment with the no. seats matching with the requirements in each skill/ technology.
11. Manufacturers of various machines, tools, gadgets must collaborate with the govt. to pass on skills via tv/ vod/ streaming videos/workshops in all major dialects.

Education for all
by Ashwin on Sep 21, 2014 05:18 PM  | Hide replies

There may be several ways but one sure way is to "make it compulsory for the Children of all MPs, MLAs to study upto Graduation, only in Govt Schools & Colleges, within their Constituency only". This will not only result in education accessible to all but also will lead to alround development, all over the Country.

You are funny! What do you mean when you say MPs and MLAs should have graduation? Just a paper of degree certificate? They can produce it easily. Establish a college and get it affiliated to some University, enroll in that college, need not attend any class or practical, get term sanctioned, appoint some one to write examination paper, and get degree or post graduate degree or even PhD. Is this difficult for politician. Is it not that majority of our degree holders are doing something like this? Or how would explain 10% employ-ability of graduates?

You dont seem to have read my view properly. I said "their Children must study only in their Constituency upto Graduation. If this is implemented, these MPs & MLAs (who are the kind of Graduates you mentioned) will start good Schools & Colleges (may be force Govt to start in theior constituencies) for the sake of their children (since we have seen that our MPs & MPAs are never bothered about anyone or all in their Constituency or in the Country, except their family) Hope my message is clear.

I woul dnot say that they should have Graduation but would certainly say that they must write an entrance exam, every time they contest. And the syllabus will be simple like figures/statistics on various public issues like say Road length in 1955 & now, laid during which Govt, NO of Schools/teachers, students drop outs/reasons, hospitals, availability of medicines, patients, patients cured or referred to bigger hospital/reasons, crop tonnage, failure, loss etc, drinking/irrigation water availability, reasons for shortage, public transport for school children, interstate etc, Public distribution system, old & new industries (if any) labour problem, unemployment, crime rate etc., but just in their Constituency (for which they are contesting) is more than enough. All these people rant anything in the Assembly or Parliament, with figures supplied by their Chamchas, dug out from Govt Offices. And more often than not our Govt Officials are engaged only in such service than any genuine public service.

I know they are all capable of producing any degree required for the occasion. Do you know that the latest fasion/fad of all IAS & IPS Officers is to add Ph.D to their names? Can anyone answer/imagine how they can get so much time to work for Ph.D with their Official responsibilities? That shows why our Ph.Ds are under rated and why common man's work never get done, even after several reminders or postponements. One University (in the geographic region of the newly formed AP but started about 10 yrs ago) has produced more no of Ph.Ds in less than 5 yrs which not even other 100 yrs old University had produced in 100 yrs. Your doubts are very genuine in that respect.
