Chennai (Madras)

Chennai weather is
a killer, very similar to
Mumbai which Mumbaikars
would not agree, but its the
same except in the evening
Mumbai may cool down a lot
more but Chennai NEVER
cools down anytime.

Yet the Europeans and Americans
can visit Chennai for the same
reason - to sweat it out.

Those who do Hot Yoga in the west
(at 45'C) or visit Sweat Lodges in US
may love it in Chennai. Its a natural
sweat Lodge and ideal place for
"Hot Yoga" (not to mix with
Hatha Yoga).

Top ten cities to visit next year

Lonely Planet has obviously NOT visited the North East India. If ever they do it, the first four places in their list will go to this part of India.

Best Destination

Chennai is the best destination for anyone who wants to see the he ll on Earth. Entire day, throughout the year, you will be sweating; No roads practically and the narrow roads are encroached by hawkers and vehicles parked; added to that, the potholes and unscientific speed breakers; with the resultant traffic jams, you stay where you started for hours together; auto and taxi fellows don't take you where you want to go and even if they, they want a fortune for that, don't search for policeman to complain - you cannot find one anywhere around who will be helpful. The best part is, all boards, signboards in all public places will be in TAMIL only. Certainly, nobody should miss such extra ordinary place.

Hindi is not the issue. Atleast signboards should be understandable by visitors, that is, if you want people to visit your city.

Tell me ONE large city in India which doesn't have any of the negatives which you have listed, except for the weather which is A matter of geography. Yes the signboards are in the local language, which is how it is in most places all over the world and which is how it should also be. If you go to a place, you have to adopt to the local language; the place obviously won't adopt to your language. You don't go to Japan and complain everything is in Japanese. And no, Hindi is NOT India's national language. India DOES NOT have a national language.

Looks like rediff does not know how to do a copy paste job correctly! Chennai was number 8th in the list to be visited and not number one. Rediff - You might as well provide the link to CNN website where this was published.

Who said Chennai is in the first place? Being an Indian city, it is listed forst clearly stating that Chennai is 9th. If you can't read, better don't comment.

Chennai not worth to visit.
by Ramesh Vijjapu on Oct 23, 2014 09:28 PM  | Hide replies

Am staying in Chennai for long time. Couldn't control laughing to see Chennai as a place to visit. There are many beautiful places in India to visit than Chennai.
I would say Chennai is a safe place to live when compared to other metros.

Well, I have changed my native place, Chennai. I agree with Ramesh. He may have his compulsions and probably tolerating it. You should decide only after you have stayed there. Believe me, its intolerable in more ways than one.
