IIT is no big deal... they do the same moneky testing work along with every one else in Indian sweatshops.

Most posters here never got a chance to go abroad hence they are claiming great about India without knowing what is there outside India

If none of the guys could qualify for IITs but do exceedingly well in MIT and find find placement in US, then something is wrong with IITs' selction process and the quality of education.IITians in India write novels, become politicians all fine, but hwo many have invented any thing at all or established any engineering industry in India?

Survival of fittest stay in india

Most of these students are leftovers!! neither they can crack entrance exams for higher education nor get selected in jobs.. Even a student who does not clear subjects regularly go abroad for MS!!the only reason being, They get admissions if they pay.. usually these bunch have lot of money and they do not know how to waste it.. They cover it saying quality of education is high, but they dont study there.. they end up spending time in odd jobs..
Other than few good universities, students who go to all other universities are crap of Indian education system.

Steps should be taken to maximize the outflow of live human beings from India. For most of the citizens India is a concentration or extermination camp. It is better to enable victims to escape rather than to keep them in the trap.

Subsidy, arrangements with foreign countries, foreign requirements based education can improve the rate of escape of live people from India. It is also a humane duty to help everyone to find a better life instead of suffering the inferior life obtaining in the country.

other reasons
by srnvs san on Nov 26, 2014 08:44 AM

1. Get job after study (especially in USA).
Some even join dummy universities.

2. To get exposure and explore the world

3. Tired with Indian systems

Quality of education may not be the main reason, quite frankly atleast in some US universities you do not really new when compared to BE/BTech course in India

This article misses a crucial point. .students aim to study abroad bcos they want to escape from India..the educated upper and Middle class of India has more in common with the West than the rest of India

Indian students yearn to go overseas
by Yeshwanth Pai on Nov 25, 2014 03:29 PM  | Hide replies

This is a misnomer. No parent would want to shell out 20-25 Lakhs if education were made available in India. Even middle income parents that I know of who have invested the sum in question are ruing the fact they have done so. Because having put in their life savings, now they are made to fend for themselves- so much that non avialbility of suitable jobs have life difficult for their kids to pay back even teh interest accrued on loans taken or simply send some money home to the beleaguered parents. I think the author has written the article without doing sufficient research. It is like reading articles in India Today, which paint rosy pictures for those arm chair Indian sipping their evening vodka or Gin in their cozy homes. overseas!

i fully agree with u,mr. Pai. if the author is genuine, he shud have continued to follow up in one or 2 cases where each one ended up in the country of their choice. mostly living as illegal immigrant and waiting till some one like Prez obama help them out.

Quit India
by arungopal agarwal on Nov 25, 2014 12:19 PM

No professional or higher income of anyone has any respect in India, only bureaucrat or politician who is on the dictating side of the table has any say. Authority is main criteria, what to do? Just one example-if a professional wants a character certificate from a Magistrate, first he will spoil his character by way of bribing Rs. 1000 aprox, to get it easily else go on chasing for about one month.

Marks in exams
by Syz on Nov 25, 2014 06:46 AM  | Hide replies

There is a rampant corruption going on in the academic circle where students are awarded high marks for very little achievement. One of the reasons behind this is Object Type questions (True/False, Select the Correct Alternative, etc). There is not much emphasis on writing skills and explanations in the exams. In good old days, students were asked to solve problems in details, not just randomly select some answers from four alternatives. By doing this, they are killing the education system. The same degradation is happening in USA, where students are not tested properly in their elementary through high schools. By following that standard, Indian education system is also going down the drain.
