It is very important that our law should first be gender neutral and have equal number of male & female well educated, qualified and knowledgeable member in the committee to deal with sexual harassment cases. There should also be the provisions to deal strictly with false cases.

surath is 100% correct. All the laws r in favor of women only in this regard. Now at office males f only getting harassed. In general Male employees r no longer interested in female colleagues as everybody is engaged nowadays and has no time and money left to run after female colleagues and with emis and so many things at a stake. For men in India we r like ATM machines. Lady employees should only be careful about security guards , driver s,male cleaning staff who have nothing to lose.My advice to males do not get into a lift or meeting room with any lady where no cc TV camera is there, she may lodge a false complain and fleece money from u.
Irritation, harassment, ignorance, buttering, scolding etc., are common features in day to day life. Somehow definition of sexual harassment has been given in law is very wide, and one sided, this must be condemned first. Women are to take sufficient care and pre-cautions on the work spot, as flurting is also common feature, in most of cases, women are prone to listen to their praise, they flurt sometime and when answered in flurt manner, sometimes it hurts them. Moreover over aspirations, zealous and higher sensitivity with women are also main reason for fake cases.
very easy to say some thing about harassment, but to deal with is most difficult,To girl or woman coming from modest family becomes more difficult utter, those who are under economic pressure it becomes more difficult, and Rascal exploit the situation.Company directors are dumb def and blind and don't care complaint they have to run their company and need efficient persons or relative on such posts.they don't bother about your personal agony.Others don't take any interest as they have to save their skin.Police become helpless as they cant find any witness or evidence or the influence of the person. It is not as easy as we think. Big fish eats small fish.Neither you can challenge in the court of law and considering your future.as court procedure is time consuming and dont know what award you get the person gets bail easily and company may not suspend him.you have to wait adjournments appeals time and money consuming process evry one spindles you
Re: How do you deal with sexual harassment at workplace?

It do exist ..almost every where! Hope we learn to retrain..and control our wagging tongues...dictats!
that 95% of alleged rape and harassment cases are filed out of vendetta .
SOURCE: NCRB report, June 2013
But this is not to say that genuine cases don't occur . On of the solution is to inquire the case dispassionately and punishing the guilty - man or woman - adequately .
Firstly, good article and definitely the need of the hour. But, women should remember that they should not take undue advantage of the Sexual Harassment laws. Women are already misusing the dowry and harassment laws. We just need to pray and hope that just to give our women freedom and equality we do not make it difficult for the men to live.
It would be great to see another article from you on how women should behave appropriately in a workplace and not use their gender and body for their advantage.
A man who is diabolic, cunningly intelligent and manipulative, somehow prevails on his prey and still find ways to escape.
A woman employee in dire need of her job in all probability would give into the unbearable pressure. Wooing, Bullying, Targeting are all part of the game..
This article is excellent and very practical, but white collar crimes are not always easy to contain.
Perhaps CCTV may be employed in a development room in each IT facility and a slew of genuine measures need to be taken to protect female employees..

Forget Women being harassed at Work...Its a one in a Million case...What about bullying by bosses ?. What about Power freaks and toxic bosses who will undermine the success of their team members and play favorites ?. There are no laws for Bullying in the Indian Corporate...How many souls suffer and quit jobs ?...It will take another 30 years for India to match the legal system of the West or Europe...Pathetic...

@Defender: Oh yes, absolutely true.. Our system can never match that of advanced society.. If strict laws are enforced on corporates, the country's economy will be in shambles.
Women would still be counselled unfortunately though to be wise and vigilant..

@Ms.Someone: Well, CCTV is one threadbare measure that struck my pea-sized brain. May not be the ideal option. However...
What I actually meant to say is that management of every firm, should put in place genuine and honest measures to protect female employees..
I bet, No senior employee/knowledge worker can ever take liberties with a female employee, if not patronaged/vouched by the management.
If someone is in a cardinal and indispensable position, the respective managements would still pressurize HR to go easy on any complaint.
Aggressive counter bullying, well I don't know, if it really works, in fact could actually start a war..
So, there you go and I've no suggestions to make..
yes people get harassed at work even bullied by seniors, what needs to be done is strict action like they do in schools or colleges for misconduct. I have seen they don't take action against a senior or influential people
